Awgree

Awgree was the cherished sheffi belonging to Gatha Elbaphay, a notable benefactor of the Canto Casino situated in Canto Bight on the planet known as Cantonica. During 34 ABY, this sheffi accompanied its owner when Resistance soldiers, specifically Finn and Rose Tico, journeyed to the Canto Casino with the intention of locating the Master Codebreaker.

Behind the scenes

Awgree made its appearance in the 2017 film, Star Wars: Episode VIII The Last Jedi, which is part of the sequel trilogy. This creature was realized as an animatronic prop, drawing inspiration from Carrie Fisher's canine companion, Gary, and was affectionately referred to as Gary or Space Gary during filming. Daisy Beattie controlled it remotely, and it was permanently affixed to the arm of the Gatha Elbaphay costume, which was worn by Paul Warren, a performer specializing in creatures and droids, with whom Beattie maintained communication through an earpiece. In 2021, Pablo Hidalgo of the Lucasfilm Story Group disclosed that the sheffi had been officially named Awgree, a name originating from the word Gary.
