Attack on Chadawa
The assault on Chadawa took place in 5 ABY during the period of the Galactic Civil War. In this conflict, Shadow Wing executed an attack on the planet of Chadawa as a component of the larger Operation: Cinder initiative.
Prelude
This battle was triggered by the choice of Governor Bordanivaux to isolate Chadawa from the primary Imperial forces under Sloane's command. Soran Kieze made contact with Colonel Madrighast concerning a rendezvous with Sloane, but Madrighast stated his unit's purpose was to defend Chadawa against the 204th. Chadawa possessed a unique characteristic: its formation differed from typical planets, having been constructed by an ancient civilization billions of years prior. During "high tide," the planet's rings emitted significant radiation levels, rendering combat impossible. Even during low tide, navigation and scanning operations were challenging.
The Battle
Chadawa's defenses consisted of approximately six ships, the largest of which was the Star Destroyer Unyielding, which was strategically positioned within the planet's ring system. Soon after, fighters from both factions started to be destroyed. Despite this, Shadow Wing successfully penetrated the ring system. The New Republic was unable to enter the rings before the radiation burst.
Once inside, Shadow Wing began to assess and test Madrighast's defensive capabilities. The New Republic forces rotated one of their three squadrons to engage the Yadeez, while the remaining two maintained patrol duties within the system. Two of the Raider-class corvettes initiated the deployment of radiation-absorbing satellites, with plans to subsequently descend onto the planet's surface. Simultaneously, Nath Tensent, Wyl Lark, and others commenced broadcasting personal narratives on open channels in an attempt to disrupt the focus of the TIE pilots. Following an extended period of preparation, the New Republic launched its offensive utilizing Hail Squadron, Flare Squadron, and Wild Squadron. The A-wings and X-wings engaged first, but suffered heavy losses. As the Y-Wings of Hail Squadron came closer, Syndulla aborted the attack due to the particle count and incoming TIE's. Meanwhile Commander Broosh and Colonel Kieze were discussing their plans. Broosh suggested a possible attack on the Star Destroyer, but Kieze knew that time was the only thing needed for the planet to fall. Unexpectedly, Lark challenged Kieze to a personal aerial duel. Kieze accepted the challenge. While they were engaged in their duel, Tensent led another attack by Hail Squadron onto one of the Raiders. However, TIE's intercepted them and began slaughtering the Y-Wings. Two proton torpedoes hit the Raider, and only five of the Y-Wings escaped. The Y-Wings made an attack on the other Raider, but the Chadawan Imperial Star Destroyer arrived and began decimating both Shadow wing and Hail Squadron. Kieze received a message that Quell had returned, as well as the situation with the Raiders, and decided to end the duel. Wyl was shot down over one of Chadawan's moons.
Both Destroyers started to move towards the freighter, but Kieze was starting to retreat as Quell's ship returned. The Deliverance found itself caught between the Chadawan forces and the Yadeez. Both destroyers began firing on each other. They circled each other until the Unyielding's shields dropped and its hull was ripped apart. Madrighast let loose a final ramming cry, but full power on weapons tore through the ship and killed the entire crew. The Yadeez and its escorts retreated the system.
