During the Great Hyperspace War, in 5000 BBY, the Battle at Primus Goluud unfolded far above the star known as Primus Goluud. This conflict pitted the forces of Empress Teta against the Sith Empire commanded by Dark Lord of the Sith Naga Sadow. Earlier, during the Battle of Koros Major, Sith commander Gav Daragon was confronted by his sister, Jori Daragon, regarding the death of their mutual friend, Aarrba, a Hutt. Overwhelmed by his emotions, Gav departed and journeyed to the Primus Goluud system, where Sadow was in seclusion within his Sith Meditation Sphere, generating Force illusions to bolster the Sith's war efforts. Wishing to put an end to the war's brutality, Daragon attacked the Meditation Sphere with blaster fire, causing damage. Subsequently, Sadow invited Daragon to meet him face-to-face within the damaged sphere, an offer Daragon accepted. However, this was a ruse, and Sadow trapped him. Desperate, Daragon transmitted crucial strategic information to Teta's forces from the sphere, hoping to contribute to a Galactic Republic victory. The Republic fleet promptly responded and arrived. Nevertheless, Sadow's forces, led by his flagship, the Corsair, soon reappeared in the system. Blaster exchanges ignited between the opposing sides, but Sadow held a concealed advantage: a secret weapon which he employed to instigate solar flares on Primus Goluud, resulting in the destruction of the sphere and the demise of Daragon, but not before the Koros forces managed to escape.
In the year 5000 BBY, Naga Sadow, the Dark Lord of the Sith who aggressively expanded the borders of the previously isolated Sith Empire, amassed an invasion force and launched an assault against the Galactic Republic. The Sith strategy during what became known as the Great Hyperspace War involved a two-pronged offensive. One contingent of the Sith forces attacked Coruscant, the capital world of the Republic, while the other targeted the Koros system, resulting in two distinct battles on the planets Kirrek and Koros Major. Concurrent with these events, Sadow withdrew to the remote Primus Goluud system within his Sith Meditation Sphere, where he intensely focused on augmenting the Sith forces through his dark side enhanced Force illusions. Meanwhile, on Koros Major, Gav Daragon, the commander overseeing the Sith operations on the planet, descended in a dropship to locate his sister, Jori Daragon, amidst the ongoing conflict. During his search, Daragon became embroiled in a confrontation with an old acquaintance, Aarrba, a Hutt, which led to Aarrba's death. Jori Daragon arrived just as this happened and confronted her brother about Aarrba's demise; overwhelmed with emotion, Gav fled the scene.

Gav resolved to travel to the Primus Goluud system and directly confront Sadow, with the intention of swiftly ending the war. Daragon fired upon Sadow's Sith Meditation Sphere, disrupting his concentration and causing his illusions to dissipate. Subsequently, Sadow communicated with Daragon, requesting a face-to-face meeting within the Meditation Sphere. Daragon accepted and traveled to the sphere in his personal shuttle. However, upon arriving, Daragon found the sphere deserted; Sadow had abandoned it, stranding him in orbit around the system's red supergiant star, Primus Goluud. In a desperate act, Daragon utilized the sphere's still-functional comm system to contact his sister and Empress Teta, the ruler of the Koros system. Their forces quickly arrived, instructing Daragon to surrender and prepare for boarding. In response, Daragon renounced the Sith Empire and divulged that the Empire was vulnerable, information that could help them secure a victory against the Sith.

At that critical juncture, the surviving elements of Sadow's battered fleet were recalled, converging in the Primus Goluud system. Sadow proclaimed that a Dark Lord of the Sith would not concede defeat easily. Although initially surprised, the Koros forces recognized this as an opportunity to inflict significant damage on the Sith forces. An exchange of blaster fire ensued between the two sides. Sadow, aboard his flagship, the Derriphan-class battleship Corsair, deployed a secret weapon to trigger solar flares on the unstable red star. With the flares posing an imminent threat to all, Daragon urged his sister and the remaining Koros forces to retreat, while transmitting the coordinates of the Sith Empire to them. The Sith departed to return to their homeworlds, and Empress Teta ordered her forces to follow Daragon's coordinates back to the Sith Empire. The Sith Meditation Sphere, containing Gav Daragon, was destroyed, resulting in his death.
Armed with Daragon's coordinates, Teta's forces pursued Sadow back to the Sith Empire, inflicting a decisive defeat upon him at the second battle of Korriban. Sadow was compelled to feign his own death and flee to the distant moon of Yavin 4. Following Gav Daragon's death in the Battle of Primus Goluud, Jori Daragon assumed control of Aarrba's Repair Dock, the business formerly owned by the late Aarrba the Hutt in Cinnagar, the capital city of Koros Major, in memory of Gav.
The Battle at Primus Goluud was a key event in Tales of the Jedi: The Fall of the Sith Empire, a story arc within the Tales of the Jedi comic book series. This arc was written by Kevin J. Anderson and released in 1996. The battle unfolded across several pages of the arc's fourth issue, The Dogs of War. A galactic history entry in the in-game Codex of the video game Star Wars: The Old Republic was the first to officially name the battle.
