A confrontation took place over Korriban during the Great Hyperspace War. This conflict involved the weakened and diminished forces of Dark Lord of the Sith Naga Sadow against the forces commanded by Koros system leader Empress Teta. Teta's forces had pursued their enemies to the worlds under the control of the Sith Empire. This battle unfolded immediately following Sadow's victory over his longtime rival, Ludo Kressh, in a prior engagement at Korriban, marking it as the concluding fight of the war. Driven by a desire for retribution for the devastation inflicted upon their worlds during the Great Hyperspace War, Empress Teta's forces overwhelmed the Sith. Ultimately, Sadow was left defenseless aboard his flagship, the Corsair. He was then compelled to feign his death and escape to the distant moon of Yavin 4 via the Denarii Nova, where he employed the dark side of the Force to obliterate his pursuers and conceal his trail. Subsequently, Sith Lord Shar Dakhan assumed command of the Sith forces, initiating desperate suicide attacks with the remaining ships. Despite these efforts, the Koros forces emerged victorious, bringing the Great Hyperspace War to an end.
In the year 5000 BBY, Dark Lord of the Sith Naga Sadow amassed an invasion force and initiated an assault on the Galactic Republic. This conflict, later known as the Great Hyperspace War, involved a three-pronged offensive aimed at Coruscant—the Republic's capital and governmental center—as well as the planets Kirrek and Koros Major, both situated within the Deep Core Koros system. However, Sadow faced betrayal from his Sith apprentice and a key commander, Gav Daragon, a native of Koros Major. Daragon was horrified by the destruction inflicted upon his homeworld.
Daragon's actions against Sadow resulted in Sith defeats at Coruscant, Kirrek, and Koros Major, effectively ending any prospect of Sith conquest. Sadow suffered another defeat in the Battle at Primus Goluud, where the remnants of his battered fleet were nearly annihilated by a military force under the leadership of Empress Teta, the ruler of the Koros system. Sadow then activated a secret weapon, triggering solar flares from the red giant star Primus Goluud, resulting in Daragon's death. However, before his demise, Daragon provided Teta's forces, including his sister Jori Daragon, with the location of the Sith Empire.

Upon his return to the Sith Empire, Sadow found himself in proximity to the Sith mausoleum world of Korriban. There, he was swiftly attacked by his old nemesis, Ludo Kressh. Although Sadow emerged victorious, his fleet suffered further losses due to Kressh's assault. However, Sadow was granted no respite, as Teta and her forces emerged from hyperspace and immediately initiated the battle. Sadow fought back with unrestrained ferocity, but the Koros forces, bolstered by their numerical superiority and Teta's inspiring leadership, proved too formidable for the Sith to overcome.
Jori Daragon herself piloted a Koros starfighter, seeking to avenge the death of her brother, Gav, and successfully destroyed several Sith starfighters. Individual dogfights between starfighters were scattered across the battlefield, and concentrated laser fire directed at the Sith capital ships proved highly effective. Aboard Sadow's flagship, the Corsair, chaos prevailed as Sadow found himself with depleted weaponry and failing systems. In desperation, Sadow set a course for the Denarii Nova, utilizing the dark side of the Force to destroy the system and any pursuing Koros soldiers. Despite Sadow's escape, Teta declared victory. Back over Korriban, Sith Lord Shar Dakhan, the former commander of the Sith forces on Coruscant, assumed control of the hopeless situation as acting Dark Lord. Recognizing that surrender was their only option, Dakhan ordered suicide attacks on the Republic forces, a tactic that initially proved effective. However, the Sith were ultimately defeated.
Following the Sith defeat in the Second Battle of Korriban, the Koros and Republic forces withdrew from Sith Space. Subsequently, Supreme Chancellor Pultimo ordered a full scale invasion of Sith space. The Jedi Order and Republic forces invaded Sith space to locate and destroy any remaining Sith strongholds and artifacts. This resulted in the fall of the Sith Empire.
Having survived the conflagration, Naga Sadow fled to the distant moon of Yavin 4, where he struggled to restore his former power. Some Sith Lords retreated to strongholds on planets such as Vjun and Thule, and the Sith's name remained largely absent from the galaxy for a thousand years. One Sith survivor and his armada, along with his most trusted Lords, fled the crumbling empire. After twenty years of random hyperspace jumps in desperation to avoid the Republic, he and his armada eventually came across the forgotten planet of Dromund Kaas, where he established himself as the Sith Emperor. There, he performed dark rituals, altering the planet's ionosphere into an electrical storm and prolonging his own life. He re-built the Sith forces on Dromund Kaas and bid his time, until he launched a surprise attack against the Republic, a conflict known as the Great Galactic War between 3681 BBY and 3653 BBY.

The Second Battle of Korriban initially appeared in Tales of the Jedi - The Fall of the Sith Empire 5, a comic book authored by Kevin J. Anderson and released in 1997. In this depiction, it was illustrated by Dario Carrasco, Jr. The 2000 reference book The Essential Chronology presented a conflicting account, stating that the Republic forces arrived during the battle between Sadow and Kressh, contrary to the events portrayed in Tales of the Jedi.
