Battle of Birgis

A conflict unfolded on the planet of Birgis, one week following the commencement of the Yuuzhan Vong War in the year 25 ABY. During this engagement, the Yuuzhan Vong employed Mandalorian Protector mercenaries under the leadership of Boba Fett to subdue the spaceport on Birgis. This strategic move allowed the Yuuzhan Vong to focus their efforts on confronting the New Republic forces. Ultimately, the defenses were overwhelmed, and the Yuuzhan Vong warriors successfully occupied the planet. Amidst the chaos, Fett managed to enlist a pilot to convey crucial intelligence to the nearest New Republic command, but unfortunately, the information carried by the pilot was disregarded and no action was taken.

Prelude

In the year 25 ABY, the extra-galactic Yuuzhan Vong fleet materialized within known space. At a designated meeting point in the Outer Rim, Nom Anor, a Yuuzhan Vong executor, met with Boba Fett's Mandalorian Protector mercenaries. Anor detailed his species' intentions for their conquest of the galaxy. In exchange for the Yuuzhan Vong's promise to spare the Mandalore sector during their invasion, the Mandalorians would pledge their service to them.

Five days after this crucial rendezvous, Fett and his Protectors embarked on their inaugural mission for the invaders. Their objective was to create a diversion at a spaceport located on Birgis, a planet targeted by the Yuuzhan Vong for invasion, with the ultimate goal of terraforming it and enslaving its population. Despite agreeing to Anor's stipulations, Mandalore Fett, recognizing the significant threat posed by the Yuuzhan Vong to his people and the broader galaxy, was already devising strategies to inform the New Republic about the Yuuzhan Vong's plans.

The battle

Fett fought with his Mandalorian Protectors during the fighting on Birgis.

One week following the opening battle of the Yuuzhan Vong War at Helska IV, an Outer Rim world, and shortly after the Yuuzhan Vong attack on the Seline system, the operation on Birgis was initiated by Fett's forces. Aware that the defenders on Birgis had dispatched early warning vessels and detected the approaching Yuuzhan Vong, Fett and the Protectors focused on disrupting the spaceport's anti-aircraft gun, demolishing the control tower, and generally causing enough chaos to facilitate a ground assault by the Yuuzhan Vong.

Goran Beviin, Fett's lieutenant, encountered a pilot within the facility and, with the assistance of fellow Mandalorians Briika Jeban and her daughter Dinua, successfully apprehended her. Fett entrusted the pilot with critical intelligence to be delivered to the nearest New Republic command, and Cham Detta, a Mandalorian, was selected to safely escort her off-planet. While Beviin held a quiet hope that New Holgha, a world targeted by the Yuuzhan Vong, would be evacuated as a result, Fett remained less optimistic.

Detta received orders to guide the pilot to a functional ship in the vicinity. Meanwhile, the local conglomeration of New Republic fleet elements, primarily composed of starfighters and ground troops—including catering corps—from conquered worlds along the invasion route, prepared to defend their position behind a barricade of wrecked speeders and repulsortrucks armed with a diverse array of weaponry. As the Yuuzhan Vong warriors advanced, Fett's team retreated. However, Beviin, curious about the fate of the Republic defenders, discovered that they had been utterly decimated. Consequently, Birgis became integrated into the Yuuzhan Vong empire.

Aftermath

Following the conquest of Birgis, the main body of the Yuuzhan Vong fleet proceeded to invade worlds further along the Veragi Trade Route, with Bimmiel being the next target. However, a portion of the Yuuzhan Vong forces detached to conquer Ord Janon. The intelligence conveyed by Fett to the New Republic was dismissed, leading to the unopposed fall of New Holgha to the Yuuzhan Vong, as New Republic forces had been diverted elsewhere.
