History

A grand birthday

Kneesaa a Jari Kintaka's grand cake

On the Forest Moon of Endor, at the extravagant birthday celebration for the Ewok Princess Kneesaa a Jari Kintaka, Kintaka's father, Chief Chirpa, intended to serve her a birthday cake. Because he wanted to incorporate berries into the cake, he asked two other Ewoks to assist him in gathering berries from the trees.

Two Duloks tried to thwart their efforts and pilfer the berries, but Chirpa and his colleagues successfully defended themselves and went back to the village. That evening, Kintaka was presented with her birthday cake, which she found delightful. The cake was decorated with frosting in a variety of colors, and her name was inscribed in High Galactic.

More Ewok parties and a hidden laserfile

At a separate birthday celebration for Kintaka in 3 ABY, Wicket Warrick, her friend, told her he looked forward to a piece of the birthday cake, since honey-cake was going to be served at her party. At the birthday celebration of the Ewok Shodu Warrick also in 3 ABY, the wokling Malani presented a birthday cake, which was the first she had ever baked. Warrick thanked the young Ewok and took a piece. While Warrick was eating the cake, Malani pointed out that it was her first attempt; Warrick, despite having trouble chewing and swallowing the piece, assured Malani that she would have never guessed, and Malani was overjoyed.

In 43 ABY, Flitcher Poste and Tobb Jadak, who were Humans, paid a visit to Rej Taunt, an Askajian criminal, at the prison on Carcel. As the pair was about to be scanned by a security officer, Poste jokingly expressed his hope that a laserfile that Jadak had concealed inside a birthday cake would not be found.

Behind the scenes

The Ewoks comic series mentioned birthday cake for the first time in its second issue, which was authored by David Manak and released on April 2, 1985 by Marvel Comics. The cake made its debut in "A Gift for Shodu," which was the seventh episode of the second season of the Ewoks animated series and was initially broadcast on October 4, 1986.

Later, a picture of birthday cake appeared on the cover of a 1987 MyComyc reprint of all of the Ewoks and Star Wars: Droids comics, where C-3PO, Wicket Warrick, Mickey Mouse, and a number of other characters from outside the Star Wars universe were shown eating it. The 2003 video game Star Wars Galaxies was also slated to include the cake, but it was ultimately removed.

The comic "Lunch Break," which is not canon, was written and illustrated by Jonathan Adams, and it was published in the sixteenth issue of the comic series Star Wars Tales on June 25, 2003, contained birthday cake. The cake is served and consumed at the birthday party of a stormtrooper serving the Galactic Empire in the comic, which takes place sometime between 0 ABY and 3 ABY.
