Mickey Mouse

Mickey Mouse, who also goes by the moniker Jedi Mickey, was a vertically challenged Jedi Master from a species of sentient rodents. He would occasionally engage in combat with the equally petite Yoda, the esteemed Grand Master of the Jedi Order. During the period known as the Clone Wars, he provided support to the Galactic Republic in their struggle against the Confederacy of Independent Systems, utilizing his specially modified Jedi interceptor and his android companion R2-MK.

After the conclusion of the Clone Wars, Mickey Mouse managed to survive the Great Jedi Purge and became an opponent of the newly established Galactic Empire. Throughout his adventures, Mouse was never without his trademark white hand coverings, and he often adorned his belongings with his unique emblem, a stylized representation of his head.

Biography

Jedi Mickey

On the world of Hyperion, Mickey Mouse, a member of the mouse race, entered the world as the Galactic Republic neared its end. Possessing an affinity for the Force, he ultimately became a member of the Jedi Order. Within the Order, he underwent instruction in the use of the Force and learned to do battle using a laser sword. Mouse steadily advanced through the ranks, eventually achieving the rank of Jedi Master.

Throughout his career, he frequently collaborated with other Jedi Knights, including Yoda himself, the Grand Master of the Jedi Order. Mouse gained immensely from his mentor's vast knowledge and empathetic nature. Together, these diminutive masters demonstrated that a warrior's worth should not be judged by their physical size and that a losing attitude can be overcome. In 22 BBY, a coalition of breakaway solar systems, known as the Confederacy of Independent Systems, initiated hostilities against the Republic. During the ensuing Clone Wars, the Jedi were tasked with leading the Republic's newly established Grand Army. Mouse was given his own Eta-2 Actis-class interceptor, which he piloted alongside his astromech companion, R2-MK.

Mickey battling Imperial forces

Following the cessation of the Clone Wars in 19 BBY, the Supreme Chancellor of the Republic, Palpatine, inaugurated a new government called the Galactic Empire and sought to annihilate all surviving Jedi. Mickey Mouse evaded the Galactic Emperor's purge and resolved to oppose the Empire's oppressive rule, utilizing his interceptor to engage Imperial TIE fighter groups. During the subsequent Dark Times, Mouse and R2-MK embarked on numerous adventures throughout the galaxy. At some point during the early years of the Galactic Civil War, Mickey, accompanied by R2-MK, joined the Alliance to Restore the Republic in their resistance against the Empire. His contributions to the Alliance included a covert operation on Endor, and engaging in aerial combat with Imperial forces in an X-wing alongside R2-MK and a StarSpeeder 1000. He accompanied Bree Starlighter, along with the droids C-3PO and R2-D2, at the grand opening of Star Tours' first location in the Earth system.

Personality and traits

Mickey Mouse was a rather short individual, standing at only 0.66 meters in height. Interestingly, he was the same height as Grand Master Yoda, who would later impart the wisdom that "size matters not" to his final student. Mouse had dark fur and prominent dark orbs.

Equipment

Mouse's customized lightsaber

He donned the customary Jedi attire, possessing at least two distinct outfits: one featuring a yellow tunic paired with cream-colored outer robes, and another consisting of a beige tunic and a brown cloak. He owned both yellow and brown foot coverings, and he typically wore a pair of white gloves. The Jedi Master personalized some of his belongings with his unique symbol, which consisted of two smaller circles positioned above a larger one—mimicking the shape of his head as seen from the front. This emblem adorned the aerofoils of his Jedi interceptor, and the droid R2-MK was given a pair of circular ears as a playful addition.

Similar to the laser sword wielded by Yoda, Mickey's weapon was shorter than standard to suit his small frame, with a hilt measuring only 14.00 centimeters and a blade approximately half a meter in length. Its metallic and dark hilt bore markings that reflected Mouse's personality. The top of the hilt featured three lines pointing towards the blade, reminiscent of the markings on Mouse's hand wear. The on switch was shaped like his three-circle emblem. Below this activation button was a band of these trefoils encircling the hilt, and the pommel displayed Mouse's initial in High Galactic script. When activated, the weapon produced a blue energy blade.

When piloting an X-wing with the Rebel Alliance, Mickey wore a standard Rebel pilot's uniform and pilot's headgear.

Powers and abilities

As a Jedi Master, Mouse possessed exceptional skills and a deep connection to the Force, along with remarkable talent in lightsaber combat. Despite his diminutive size, he was a formidable warrior. He was also a skilled aviator, capable of piloting both an Eta-2 Actis-class interceptor and an X-wing.

Origins

The unofficial character of Jedi Mickey was one of the interactive costumed characters that could be found at Star Wars Weekends, an annual Star Wars celebration held at Disney's Hollywood Studios theme park within the Walt Disney World Resort. He was inspired by Mickey Mouse, the iconic cartoon character and symbol of The Walt Disney Company, who made his debut on November 18, 1928 as the star of Steamboat Willie, the first cartoon with synchronized sound.

Lucasfilm Ltd., the company founded by George Lucas and famous for producing the Star Wars franchise, has been officially owned by The Walt Disney Company since December 21, 2012.

Development

A line of Jedi Mickey-themed toys was conceived by a team of Disney Parks product developers under the direction of Brad Schoeneberg. Hasbro was the first toy company to release a double-character toy set featuring Jedi Mickey and Yoda as part of its Star Wars: Star Tours toy collection in 2005. In 2007, Schoeneberg's team designed the official Jedi Mickey lightsaber toy.

Jedi Mickey action figure

Three years later, Disney Parks introduced R2-MK, Mickey's astromech assistant, to its attraction and subsequently released a double-character toy set that included both characters. The Jedi Mickey-R2-MK packaging contained specific details about Jedi Mickey's role in the Star Wars universe. That same year, Star Wars creator George Lucas, posed with Jedi Mickey, R2-MK, and other characters at Walt Disney World Resort to promote the "Last Tour To Endor," an event celebrating the final year of the original Star Tours ride before its replacement by Star Tours: The Adventures Continue.

In addition to Jedi Mickey, the Walt Disney Company's mascot has also portrayed Luke Skywalker in various Star Wars/Disney crossover action figures. The series also features other Disney characters taking on Star Wars roles, such as Minnie Mouse as Princess Leia Organa, Donald Duck as Han Solo, Goofy as C-3PO, and Black Pete as Boba Fett.

Jedi Mickey's Acme Character Key

In 2008, Acme Archives Direct, the official licensee for original and fine art for Disney, Star Wars, and other franchises, released a character key of Jedi Mickey. This limited edition character key identified Mouse's homeworld as "Hyperion." In reality, Hyperion is a small moon of Saturn and the street in Burbank where the Walt Disney Studios were located in the 1920s and 1930s when Mickey was first created. The character key also listed Jedi Mickey's height as 1.35 meters, which contradicts the appearance of the Hasbro toys. Furthermore, he was explicitly described as small on the back of the "Jedi Mickey & Yoda" packaging.

On April 1, 2012, the news website Live Geek or Die published an article claiming that Jedi Mickey would be a playable character in the upcoming action role-playing video game Diablo III developed by Blizzard Entertainment. The article stated that Jedi Mickey would possess upgradable Force powers and the ability to summon his pet dog Pluto to aid him in combat. However, this was later revealed to be an April Fool's Day prank.

Continuity

While Hasbro's toy releases are generally considered part of canon, Holocron continuity database administrator Leland Chee confirmed via Twitter on May 24, 2012, that Jedi Mickey and related toys are not considered canon within the Holocron.
