Camp Alpha represented one of the five havens established within the confines of the Quarantine Zone located on Dathomir. Its creation followed the devastating outbreak of the notorious Blackwing virus during the tumultuous era of the Galactic Civil War.
Back in 1 ABY, a calamitous event unfolded at an Imperial Research and Prison Facility situated on the planet of Dathomir. Here, the Galactic Empire was secretly immersed in perilous scientific endeavors, seeking to weaponize the terrifying Blackwing virus into a formidable bioweapon. Alas, the virus escaped its confines, transforming a significant portion of the populace into ravenous, flesh-hungry undead beings. In response, the Empire swiftly implemented a Quarantine Zone to stem the tide of infection. The few individuals who managed to survive the initial viral onslaught, primarily consisting of Imperial personnel and inmates, found themselves trapped within the Quarantine Zone. In a desperate bid for survival, they established five distinct camps, namely Camp Alpha, Camp Beta, Camp Gamma, Camp Delta, and Camp Epsilon, hoping to secure a semblance of safety while awaiting evacuation. However, all rescue attempts were met with fierce resistance, as landing teams were invariably attacked and their members perished before locating any survivors. These camps were given their designations by TIE pilot Jeb Maris, who successfully delivered radios from Camp Alpha to the others, establishing communication between the settlements.
Camp Alpha's construction involved a cluster of tents fortified by a defensive perimeter composed of concrete fragments, discarded machinery, and assorted refuse. A diverse group of survivors, encompassing Imperial soldiers, former prisoners, and soldiers from the Rebel Alliance, defended it under the leadership of Sergeant Mika Horn. The camp was frequently assaulted by the undead, forcing the refugees to fight for their very existence. Notable survivors included Jeb Maris and the Bothan Oona Wran.
Shortly after the outbreak's onset, Doctor Zahara Cody and Trig Longo, both survivors of the earlier Blackwing incident aboard the Star Destroyer Vector, were transported to Camp Alpha aboard the Millennium Falcon, piloted by Han Solo and Chewbacca. Cody and Longo proposed a plan to distribute an anti-virus, which Dr. Cody had developed from her own immunity gained during the Vector episode, to all survivors within the Quarantine Zone. Subsequently, various spacers made stops at Camp Alpha during their ventures within the quarantined area.
Camp Alpha functioned as a non-player character location within the 2003 video game Star Wars Galaxies, a massively multiplayer online roleplaying game brought to life by Sony Online Entertainment and published by LucasArts, prior to its shutdown on December 15, 2011. Camp Alpha's inclusion in the game occurred with the arrival of "Game Update 14," also recognized as the "Death Troopers" update, which was released on October 12, 2009.
