Camp Epsilon

Camp Epsilon represented one of the five separate refugee encampments that were constructed within the confines of the Quarantine Zone located on the planet Dathomir. These camps arose following an outbreak of the Blackwing virus during the era of the Galactic Civil War.

History

The Imperial Research and Prison Facility.

Back in 1 ABY, an incident took place at an Imperial Research and Prison Facility situated on the planet of Dathomir. At this facility, the Galactic Empire was secretly undertaking perilous scientific investigations aimed at transforming the terrifying Blackwing virus into a bioweapon. The virus escaped its designated containment area, converting a significant portion of the local population into flesh-hungry undead beings. In response, the Empire promptly established a Quarantine Zone with the intention of controlling the spread of the infection. The few individuals who managed to survive the initial viral outbreak, primarily consisting of Imperial personnel and prisoners, found themselves trapped within the Quarantine Zone. In an effort to secure their safety while awaiting potential evacuation, they established five camps within the zone: Camp Alpha, Camp Beta, Camp Gamma, Camp Delta, and Camp Epsilon. However, any rescue attempts were met with immediate attacks, resulting in the deaths of rescue team members before they could locate the survivors. The camps received their names from Jeb Maris, a TIE pilot who successfully delivered radios from Camp Alpha to the other camps, thereby facilitating communication among them.

Zsu Val defending Camp Epsilon.

Camp Epsilon consisted of a collection of tents, all encircled by a defensive barrier constructed from concrete slabs, large pieces of defunct equipment, and various discarded materials. The camp was inhabited by a diverse group of survivors, including Imperial troopers, former prisoners, and soldiers from the Rebel Alliance. The camp's defense was spearheaded by Zsu Val, an ex-prisoner. The camp was frequently subjected to attacks by zombies, forcing the refugees to constantly fight for their survival. Other notable survivors included the technician Sogan Varga, the mechanic Nils Cridmeen, Inquisitor Klex Fulgor, and a small group of immune stormtroopers, including GT-643, KD-121, and their leader HX-138. Unlike the other four refugee camps, which were scattered throughout the Quarantine Zone, Camp Epsilon was strategically located within the courtyard of the Imperial Research and Prison Facility. The camp was established around the last remaining starship in the area, a Lambda-class shuttle, which had managed to avoid destruction during the outbreak. However, the ship had sustained damage and was unable to fly. HX-138 hoped to find a way to repair the shuttle, enabling the survivors to escape the Quarantine Zone.

A group of spacers visited Camp Epsilon while traveling in the Quarantine Zone. They aided the survivors in their battles against the undead and assisted the stormtroopers in rescuing other survivors and locating the necessary parts to repair the shuttle. Later, the spacers departed Camp Epsilon to infiltrate the Imperial Research and Prison Facility in search of an original sample of the Blackwing virus. The spacers successfully navigated the research facility and eventually returned to Camp Epsilon with a group of survivors they had discovered in the laboratories. In the interim, Nils Cridmeen had managed to fix the Lambda-class shuttle. Ultimately, the refugees from Camp Epsilon, the survivors from the research facility, and the spacers all escaped the Quarantine Zone together aboard the repaired shuttle.

Behind the scenes

Camp Epsilon existed as a non-player character within the 2003 video game known as Star Wars Galaxies, a massively multiplayer online roleplaying game that was developed by Sony Online Entertainment and published by LucasArts. The game was shut down on December 15, 2011. Camp Epsilon was integrated into the game through "Game Update 14," also referred to as the "Death Troopers" update, which was released on October 12, 2009.
