This planet served as the homeworld for the Chagrian species, notably including Mas Amedda, who held positions as Vice Chancellor within the Galactic Republic and subsequently as Grand Vizier within the Galactic Empire. Fishing was a well-liked pastime on Champala; however, Amedda commented that by the time of the Clone Wars, its oceans had deteriorated from their former state. The human architect Orson Callan Krennic drew upon this deterioration as a comparison when elucidating his intentions for scientist Galen Walton Erso to Amedda. Its own embassy was maintained by the world on Coruscant. The Galactic Empire occupied it.
