Cliff Dweller

The Cliff Dweller was a fruit-based, zero-proof drink that originated on the world of Ahch-To. The beverage came in pink or a dark orange shade, often with a garnish, and was sometimes served in mugs shaped like the porg creatures. A recipe for the Cliff Dweller was featured in Artiodac culinary expert Strono Tuggs's collection of recipes, The Official Black Spire Outpost Cookbook, in 34 ABY. Moreover, this beverage was available at Oga's Cantina located on Batuu.

Description

The Cliff Dweller was a bubbly, fruit-flavored, and non-alcoholic drink suitable for consumption by both humans and Artiodacs. One iteration of this beverage exhibited a pink hue and was conceived on the planet Ahch-To found within the Unknown Regions. It incorporated various locally-sourced ingredients from the planet's archipelagos, including a garnish. Another version possessed a deep orange color and was commonly served in mugs.

History

A Cliff Dweller from Oga's Cantina

In 34 ABY, Strono Tuggs, an Artiodac cook, released his initial compilation of recipes, The Official Black Spire Outpost Cookbook, which included a recipe for the pink Cliff Dweller. He thought the drink possessed a "tropical flair" and noted that the refreshment was a unique method for utilizing local ingredients. Tuggs stated that even those residing in the cliffs of Ahch-To needed a drink recipe for unexpected guests, suggesting the Cliff Dweller as a suitable choice.

Dark orange Cliff Dwellers were offered at Oga's Cantina in the Black Spire Outpost community on the Batuu planet, located in the Outer Rim, during the same year. The establishment served the drink in conventional drinking vessels or mugs crafted to resemble porgs, a bird species indigenous to Ahch-To. Around that period, the historian Eloc Throno listed the Cliff Dweller among the cantina's offerings in his work, Traveler's Guide to Batuu. Approximately at the same time, Tuggs also added the Cliff Dweller recipe from his cookbook to a small recipe pamphlet designed to inform visitors about Batuu.

Behind the scenes

An out-of-universe recipe for Cliff Dwellers was included in Star Wars: Galaxy's Edge: The Official Black Spire Outpost Cookbook.

The Cliff Dweller was initially introduced as a drink sold to patrons at Oga's Cantina in Star Wars: Galaxy's Edge, a themed area that opened in Disneyland Park on May 31st, 2019. The beverage was initially revealed in a D23 article on February 27th of that year. The menu's description of the drink reads, "Citrus Juices, Coconut, Hibiscus-Grenadine, and Seagram's® Ginger Ale served in a souvenir porg mug."

A recipe for the drink from the real world is included in the recipe book Star Wars: Galaxy's Edge: The Official Black Spire Outpost Cookbook, which was authored by Marc Sumerak and Chelsea Monroe-Cassel and published on November 5th, 2019. The recipe calls for orange juice, pineapple juice, lime juice, grenadine, and coconut cream to be combined in a cocktail shaker, then poured over ice and topped with ginger ale. Sumerak mentioned in an interview that the Cliff Dweller was one of his preferred drinks from the recipe book. The official Disney Parks Blog posted a similar recipe that uses the same ingredients as the cookbook but in different ratios, and it specifies hibiscus grenadine like the theme park version. The post stated that the measurements were adapted from the restaurant's large batch recipe.
