The connection motif, composed by Michael Kramer, was featured in the 2020 film The LEGO Star Wars Holiday Special. This leitmotif accompanies scenes where portals are opened, allowing travel through both time and space. It's also heard during sequences involving the key located at the Jedi Temple on Kordoku, and the presence or absence of connection between sentients. Sometimes, the motif acts as a musical figure that precedes John Williams' friendship motif, while a dissonant, minor-key version underscores scenes depicting disconnection.
This musical theme appears frequently throughout the special, notably during the closing scene. In this scene, sentients and porgs come together to celebrate Life Day. This gathering occurs after Finn, attempting to embrace letting go, uses Rey's lightsaber to slice a roast tip-yip in half, along with the entire feast table.
The initial instance of the connection and friendship motifs playing together occurs in the opening scene of the LEGO Holiday Special. Here, Yoda begins to tell the story of Rey Skywalker's Life Day journey, set after the final battle against the Sith. These two themes are later heard as Jedi Master Yoda taught Rey Skywalker the importance of being mindful of her connections with others, displaying visions of the past where a master and an apprentice are shown to be not only students of the Force, but also friends, which he states is the most important thing.
The combined motif is played again when Rey Skywalker, having understood the significance of connection, creates a portal through time and space without needing the key. Subsequently, the combination of the connection and friendship motifs is heard when Rey and Luke Skywalker separate on the second Death Star after defeating the Sith together by adhering to the Jedi tenet of letting go. The complete rendition of both motifs is played once more in the Holiday Special's final scene, as Yoda narrates that Life Day is a time for joy, friendship, and family, while celebrants gather in a circle on the day of life, before the transition to the end credits.
