Rey Skywalker, following the conclusion of the First Order-Resistance War, constructed a lightsaber with a yellow blade; this was the Jedi's Rey Skywalker's weapon of choice after the First Order-Resistance War.
Constructed from salvaged components of her quarterstaff along with a fabric grip for the hand, Rey's lightsaber was a unique creation. In a similar fashion to the quarterstaff it originated from, Rey's lightsaber hilt was bulky and solid, its exterior armor providing resistance against impacts and general wear. A kyber crystal resided at the core of the weapon, and when activated, it projected a plasma blade that was colored yellow. Rey's weapon incorporated a rotating gear-like mechanism within its emitter matrix; this mechanism facilitated the opening of the lightsaber's emitter, allowing the plasma blade to emerge.
While stationed at the base on Ajan Kloss during the First Order-Resistance War, Rey began assembling her personal lightsaber within her living quarters. She spent her time studying ancient Jedi texts that she had taken from the library on Ahch-To. She briefly entertained the idea of implementing a hinged design featuring an emitter on either end, but she abandoned this concept after experiencing a dark vision of herself amidst the wreckage of the second Death Star. Prior to the Battle of Exegol, the droid D-O, which was handmade, rummaged through Rey's workbench, nearly disturbing the lightsaber, before Finn, Rey's friend and fellow Resistance member, scolded him.
Following the Battle of Exegol, which marked the end of the First Order–Resistance War, Rey journeyed to the planet Tatooine. It was there that she revealed her completed, single-bladed weapon after she interred the two lightsabers belonging to her mentors, Luke Skywalker and Leia Organa, at the ruins of the Lars homestead, which had once been the home of the Skywalker family. Shortly thereafter, an old woman approached her and inquired about her identity. With the approval of the spirits of Luke and Leia, the Jedi proclaimed herself to be "Rey Skywalker". The lightsaber she had created was intended to honor the Skywalker legacy.
The lightsaber used by Rey made its debut in the 2019 movie, Star Wars: Episode IX The Rise of Skywalker, which served as the concluding chapter of the Star Wars sequel trilogy.
Just before the blade is activated in the film, quick flashes of both green and blue light are perceptible in the blade emitter.
In The LEGO Star Wars Holiday Special, Rey would accept Finn as one of her initial Jedi apprentices as she sought to rebuild the Jedi Order. During his Jedi training, Finn would attempt to use Rey's lightsaber to practice deflecting blaster bolts fired from a training remote.
Later, Rey would wield her lightsaber in combat against past versions of Darth Vader, Darth Sidious, and Kylo Ren.
