Rey's quarterstaff

The quarterstaff of Rey, the scavenger, was an item she recovered from the debris scattered across the desert landscape after the Battle of Jakku. Throughout a large portion of her life, she employed it both as a scavenging tool and for self-defense. These proficiencies would prove valuable later on when she faced Kylo Ren with a lightsaber during the Battle of Starkiller Base.

Ultimately, Rey took the staff apart, repurposing several of its components to construct her personal lightsaber.

Description

The quarterstaff was designed with a sling, enabling Rey to carry it over her shoulder while climbing or to fasten it securely to her speeder. A grip fashioned from remnants of an old uniform provided a safe and comfortable hold.

History

Rey utilized her quarterstaff in many ways. It was a reliable walking stick, perfect for probing the sands of Jakku for unstable ground and for locating items hidden underneath. It also doubled as a weapon when facing adversaries like bandits and thugs, such as Teedo.

The skills Rey honed while wielding her quarterstaff would later assist her in handling a lightsaber. Her mastery with the staff was so significant that she continued its use even after obtaining the Skywalker saber.

Following the First Order's downfall in the Battle of Exegol, Rey deconstructed the staff, using various parts from it to construct her own lightsaber.

Behind the scenes

Rey's staff made its debut in the 2015 motion picture Star Wars: Episode VII The Force Awakens, which was the initial movie in the Star Wars sequel trilogy.

The original prop had larger dimensions, but it underwent a scanning process by model makers and was subsequently 3D-printed to the new size for usage in the film.
