Cygnus Space Workshops
Cygnus Spaceworks, also identified as Cygnus Space Workshops, functioned as a manufacturer of starships throughout both the eras of the Republic and the Empire.
History
Prior to the rise of the Empire under power, Cygnus Space Workshops was encouraged by Republic Sienar Systems to spearhead the development of the Abecederian line. This company was among several, including Theed Engineering along with Sienar Fleet Systems, which participated in the construction of the starship known as the Carrion Spike, the personal transport of Imperial Governor Wilhuff Tarkin. Following the theft of the Carrion Spike by a rebel group, Artoz, a Mon Calamari member within the group, recognized Cygnus Space Workshops' contribution in equipping the vessel.
Behind the scenes
The origin of Cygnus Spaceworks can be traced back to Book of Imperial Shuttle Plans: Cygnus Spaceworks, a fan-created work from 1984 by Lawrence Miller. This material depicted the company as the manufacturer of a series of ships bearing a strong resemblance to the Lambda-class T-4a shuttle. Frequently mistaken for an official Lucasfilm creation, the company was later officially incorporated in 1994 within the licensed second volume of The Official Star Wars Technical Journal. Subsequently, the 2014 novel Tarkin by James Luceno integrated the company into canon from its previous status within the Star Wars Legends continuity. On August 21, 2017, Fantasy Flight Games revealed the Alpha-class Xg-1 Star Wing as part of Wave XII for their Star Wars: X-Wing Miniatures Game, attributing its production to Cygnus Spaceworks.
