Darth Karrid

Kana Terrid, later known as Darth Karrid, was a female Falleen who transitioned from being a Jedi to embracing the dark side. She ascended to the rank of Sith Lord within the Sith Empire, mentored by Darth Malgus during the concluding stages of the Great Galactic War. During the Galactic War, she commanded the Sith's premier war vessel, the Ascendant Spear, utilizing a cybernetic interface. Succeeding Darth Hadra, she assumed leadership of the Sphere of Technology and secured her position on the Dark Council. Her demise over Duro led to her replacement on the Council by Darth Acina.

Biography

Kana Terrid, a female Falleen, was born during the era of the Great Galactic War. Her Force sensitivity led to her induction into the Jedi Order. Under the guidance of Jedi Master Gnost-Dural, she quickly set herself apart from fellow Padawans through her ambitious nature and adventurous tendencies. This prompted her master to assign her a perilous mission within the Sith Empire. During the Cold War, Terrid was tasked with infiltrating the Sith Order as a double agent, becoming Darth Malgus's apprentice. However, over time, she embraced Sith principles and succumbed to the dark side, providing Republic intelligence to her Sith superiors. Her transformation culminated when she was enticed by the prospect of commanding the Ascendant Spear, a sophisticated warship designed by Darth Mekhis. She fully embraced the dark side by undergoing the implantation process necessary to control the starship, thus becoming Darth Karrid.

Karrid swiftly established herself as a strategic mastermind and ruthless commander, remaining undefeated as hostilities reignited between the Galactic Republic and the Sith Empire. This reputation garnered the favor of Darth Marr, who championed her ascension to the Dark Council to fill the vacancy left by the deceased Darth Hadra as head of the Sphere of Technology. However, other Sith Lords favored Darth Gravus, influenced by their xenophobia towards non-Human and non-Pureblood Sith, as well as Darth Karrid's former master's attempted coup. Upon learning from Marr about the Council's preference for Gravus, she devised a scheme to discredit him. Karrid intervened in Gravus's battle at Leritor, provoking him into attacking her, thus justifying her destruction of his ship. She simultaneously engaged and destroyed both Imperial and Republic fleets. Despite Gravus's pleas for mercy, she executed him, securing the Dark Council's approval and her appointment as Darth Hadra's successor.

Darth Karrid duels her former master Gnost-Dural

Shortly thereafter, Theron Shan, who had previously thwarted Mekhis's plans, resolved to eliminate the last of her creations. Accompanied by Karrid's former master, Gnost-Dural, he infiltrated the Ascendant Spear to sabotage it and manipulate Karrid into traveling to Duro, the Empire's next target. Karrid eventually detected Gnost-Dural's presence on board. Aware that she could not defeat him alone due to her focus on mastering her ship, she confronted him with her apprentices. Gnost-Dural deliberately allowed himself to be captured, exploiting Karrid's arrogance by feigning an attempt to prevent her from going to Duro. When Gnost-Dural declared that it was too late to change course, Karrid fell for the ruse and set a course for the planet.

Upon arriving at Duro, she immediately targeted fleeing Imperial ships that had retreated from the battle. She then turned her fire on the Republic fleet assembled by Jace Malcom, but was surprised by her complete misses. She soon discovered that a saboteur was uploading viruses into her ship's systems and took measures to stop him. As Karrid prepared to deliver the final blow to the Republic fleet, the saboteur, Theron, flooded the ship's systems with false data, causing them to overload. Karrid, deeply connected to her ship, lost control and opened the command pod she used to operate it. Seeing that a man in his underwear (Theron had removed most of his clothing to work in the Spear's engine room) was responsible for ruining Mekhis's ultimate creation, she ignited her lightsaber and attacked him. The intervention of Republic ships attacking the Spear's exterior saved Theron from certain death. Enraged that her powerful ship was about to be destroyed, she rushed back into the command pod in a desperate attempt to save it. However, Theron, intending to kill her, threw his discharged blaster into the pod before it closed, killing Darth Karrid and ending the threat of the Ascendant Spear permanently.

Following Darth Karrid's death and the vacancy of her position, the Emperor's Hand selected Darth Acina as her replacement. Theron enjoyed recounting his victory over Darth Karrid, believing he told the story better than Gnost-Dural.

Powers and abilities

Darth Karrid possessed extensive knowledge of technology. She was skilled in the lightsaber form Niman and capable of wielding Force lightning.

Behind the scenes

Darth Karrid made her debut in the 2012 novel The Old Republic: Annihilation, which initially identified her as Darth Hadra's successor. However, the introduction of Darth Acina in Star Wars: The Old Republic: Rise of the Hutt Cartel, the first Digital Expansion for the BioWare video game Star Wars: The Old Republic, included a Codex entry that incorrectly stated she succeeded Hadra. This error was corrected in Update 2.1.1 to accurately reflect that Acina succeeded Karrid.
