Darth Vader #24 represents the twenty-fourth installment, and second-to-last issue, in the canon comic book series titled Star Wars: Darth Vader (2017). Charles Soule served as the writer, Giuseppe Camuncoli provided the illustrations, and Marvel Comics released it on November 28, 2018.
A burst of Force energy hurls Darth Vader away from the meditation chamber inside Fortress Vader. Despite being at a numerical disadvantage, Lord Vader disregards an order to pull back the Imperial garrison, instead urging his troops to obliterate the attackers and demonstrate the power of the Empire. Vader spearheads the charge, leading the Magma troopers, stormtroopers, walkers, and TIE fighters in combat against the approaching waves of lava fleas and Mustafarians. He uses his lightsaber to eliminate many enemies. Realizing that Lord Vader seems undefeatable, Kkkt assembles the other Mustafarians, including his offspring Sssp. Together, they harness their collective power to summon the "blood of Mustafar" via the Force, intending to cleanse the planet with fire. The Imperial forces and the warring Mustafarians are engulfed by a surge of lava, resulting in widespread death. Observing the devastation, Kkkt comes to believe that the "dark one" is dead and that they have been saved.
Nonetheless, Lord Vader employs the Force to encase armor in a protective shield. He calls upon the head of an AT-AT and uses Force jumps to reach safety, rising above the sea of magma. Upon realizing that the "dark one" still lives, the Mustafarians regroup for a final attack on Fortress Vader, aiming to destroy it. However, the Sith Lord uses the fortress's meditation chamber to summon even more lava, annihilating the attackers.
Darth Momin expresses his gratitude to Lord Vader for preventing the destruction of his castle. Lord Vader accuses Momin of treason. Momin, noticing damage to his own cyborg armor, believes he has a chance to overcome his opponent. He ridicules Vader's conviction that he can control the dark side and taunts Vader regarding his injuries and late wife. While dueling with Lord Vader, Momin asserts that they both serve the dark side and glorify it through their actions and creations.
Momin rebukes Vader for resisting the will of the dark side before severing his prosthetic sword arm. When Vader questions whether Momin had lied about what lies beyond death, Momin responds that anything is achievable through the Force. He declares that Vader is unworthy to serve the dark side. While Momin is gloating, Lord Vader uses the Force to crush him with a massive panel. Despite his wounds, Momin remains defiant, insisting that the dark side desires him to live. Lord Vader mocks Momin before using the Force to shatter the panel against his neck, killing the ancient Sith Lord.
Vader, claiming control of his own destiny, uses the dark side to unlock the door, unleashing a surge of energy that is visible from a great distance.
