Magmatroopers, also known as magma troopers, represented a specialized type of stormtrooper within the Galactic Empire. Their primary function was suppressing insurrections on volcanic and mining planets, including Sullust, Mustafar, and Shu-Torun.

Magma troopers were assigned to Mustafar in order to garrison the construction zone of Fortress Vader, which was the personal stronghold of Darth Vader. The fortress's design was intended to act as a focal point for the Force, but it was damaged during testing procedures. Following the failure of the fifth design iteration, a magma trooper sergeant was utilized as a host body for the ancient Sith Lord known as Darth Momin. After the subsequent design's failure, that host body was killed. Shortly after the completion of the ninth, and final, design, a Mustafarian army charged the structure, compelling the magma troopers to organize a defense against the revolt. Vader took command of the defense until the Mustafarian leaders unleashed a torrent of lava upon his forces, effectively clearing the battlefield.
During 0 ABY, Vader commanded a contingent of magma troopers in an attack against a delving citadel situated on Shu-Torun. The citadel was obliterated during this conflict.
Their armor was a modified version of the standard stormtrooper armor, specifically engineered to endure intense temperatures. This included additional plating on the legs, black rank pauldrons reminiscent of those used by sandtroopers, and a respirator linked to a backpack via a tube, providing protection from volcanic ash and harmful gasses. The magma troopers were armed with weapons such as the E-11 medium blaster rifle, T-21 light repeating blaster, and DLT-19 heavy blaster rifle. Officers utilized colored pauldrons to denote their rank, instead of the standard black.
