Description
Overview
A destroyer represents a type of warship that saw utilization by a multitude of factions within the galaxy. Classified as a capital ship, the Anaxes War College System defined a destroyer as a warship with a length of roughly 1,000 to 2,000 meters, positioning it in size between a heavy cruiser and a battlecruiser. This destroyer classification was introduced by the system in what the Chiss and other groups from the Unknown Regions refer to as Lesser Space, which is the galaxy beyond the Unknown Regions.
Models

Several destroyer models were actively used. The Ruling Families and Chiss Expansionary Defense Fleet of the Chiss Ascendancy operated the Chiss destroyer along with the Clarr destroyer. The Confederacy of Independent Systems employed a variety of models, notably the Fantail-class destroyer from the Corporate Alliance, as well as the Recusant-class Light Destroyer and Recusant-class Support Destroyer from the Commerce Guild. During their conquests within the Unknown Regions, the Nikardun Destiny deployed the Nikardun destroyer. Star Destroyers were utilized by entities such as the Galactic Republic, Galactic Empire, Imperial Remnants, First Order, and Sith Eternal.
History
While the destroyer classification had roots in the Unknown Regions, the Anaxes War College System broadened its scope during the Clone Wars to encompass three additional classes: the destroyer, the battlecruiser, and the dreadnought. This expansion occurred despite the existence of an earlier dreadnought era during the Alsakan Conflicts. Destroyers played a role in the Clone Wars, marked by the emergence of the Star Destroyer family of designs and the destroyers operated by the Separatists. Following the Clone Wars, Star Destroyers continued their service throughout the Imperial Era, and also during the rise and eventual fall of the First Order some decades afterwards.
