The DC-12U beam rifle, also known as the SCUBA trooper rifle, represented a specialized type of blaster rifle engineered for underwater functionality. This blaster featured a double-barreled design and incorporated a glowlight attachment to enhance visibility in the dark depths of the ocean.
BlasTech Industries designed the DC-12U beam rifle specifically for the clone dive troopers serving within the Grand Army of the Galactic Republic. This robust, double-barreled weapon evolved from an earlier BlasTech blaster rifle intended for use in wet, humid, or swamp-like conditions. Featuring a retractable stock and an integrated under-barrel mount, the DC-12U discharged two low-power blaster bolts with a single trigger pull, proving highly effective in skilled hands. The under-barrel mount typically accommodated a high-intensity flashlight, offering illumination in the darkest aquatic planets' oceans.
Due to its unique combination of blaster gases and specialized focusing elements optimized for underwater use, the DC-12U projected blue-colored blaster bolts, contrasting with the typical red bolts of most weapons. A single DC-12U had a price of 1,600 credits.
During the Clone Wars conflict between the Galactic Republic and the Confederacy of Independent Systems, a contingent of clone SCUBA troopers under the command of Clone Commander Monnk wielded these rifles during the Battle of Mon Cala in 20 BBY. The SCUBA troopers' successors, the Imperial seatroopers, also utilized DC-12Us during the invasion of Mon Cala.
