The stolen and seized Imperial II-class Star Destroyer, known as the Victorum, was defended by Vanguard Squadron amidst a field of wreckage, facing a significantly larger Galactic Empire force.
Following a battle over Yavin Prime, the Victorum, an Imperial II-class Star Destroyer, fell into the hands of the New Republic for use in Project Starhawk. Sustaining damage during the conflict, the vessel was unable to complete its jump from Yavin Prime to the Nadiri Dockyards, becoming stranded within Imperial-controlled space. Responding to a distress call, the Temperance dispatched Vanguard Squadron to provide protection against two approaching Quasar Fire-class cruiser-carriers targeting the Star Destroyer.
Upon Vanguard Squadron's arrival in the system, the Imperials initiated an attack, deploying TIE bombers with the intent to destroy the Star Destroyer. Vanguard Squadron engaged and repelled multiple waves of TIE fighters and Lambda-class T-4a shuttles transporting boarding parties, while the crew within the Victorum worked urgently to repair the Star Destroyer's shields and hyperdrive. Vanguard requested reinforcements, summoning a squadron of six BTL-A4 Y-wing assault starfighter/bombers to assist in neutralizing the Quasar carriers. A lull in the fighting then occurred, the Y-wings were dismissed, and Vanguard Squadron began drills of tactical flight formations as the Victorum's crew continued their repair efforts.
Once the repairs were finalized, the Star Destroyer attempted a jump to hyperspace, but the hyperdrive malfunctioned once more. However, this time, additional Quasars arrived, accompanied by two Raider-class corvettes. Vanguard engaged the incoming TIE/ln space superiority starfighters and targeted the corvettes for destruction. The Victorum's crew successfully repaired the hyperdrive just as a larger Imperial fleet, consisting of three more Raiders, two Quasars, two Arquitens cruisers, and three Imperial-class Star Destroyers, emerged from hyperspace directly in front of the New Republic forces, poised to annihilate them. This time, the hyperdrive functioned correctly, allowing them to escape into lightspeed.
Vanguard Squadron provided escort for the Victorum to the Nadiri dockyards, where its components were salvaged and integrated into the new prototype Starhawk-class battleship, designated the Starhawk.
