Disciples of Twilight

The Disciples of Twilight constituted a Force-attuned order, as they were sensitive to the Force. Their base of operations was Dyspeth, a moon situated within the shadows cast by a planet in the Outer Rim territories. This moon underwent colonization by Humans around the year 900 BBY, as these colonists sought to sever ties with the Galactic Republic. Subsequently, a female figure known only as "Twilight," believed to be a former Jedi, joined forces with other Force-sensitive colonists to establish the Disciples of Twilight. The adherents of this tradition took on the role of protectors and defenders for the inhabitants of Dyspeth, although they possessed neither political clout nor military might. Five centuries later, Republic surveyors stumbled upon Dyspeth, leading to the dispersal of the Disciples of Twilight into adjacent systems. About one millennium following the order's inception, they remained neutral in the ongoing war involving the Dark Lord of the Sith, Darth Krayt's Sith Empire, the exiled Emperor Roan Fel's Empire-in-exile, and the remnants of the Galactic Alliance.

History

In the vicinity of 900 BBY, a contingent of Human colonists, aspiring to break free from the authority of the Galactic Republic, embarked on a journey to a shadowy moon known as Dyspeth. This celestial body was situated in the Varada sector of the Outer Rim Territories. Soon after the establishment of the colony, a female figure referred to as "Twilight," rumored to have once been a Jedi, harnessed her abilities within the Force to unite other Force-sensitive colonists. Their shared goal was to adapt and thrive in the dim environment of Dyspeth.

Following a period of peace lasting five centuries, a Republic surveying team made the discovery of Dyspeth. The natives of Dyspeth rejoined the Republic, though with some reluctance, and became known for their reserved nature as merchants and traders. They began to venture into neighboring systems, but the people they encountered struggled to comprehend the motivations of the Disciples. Nevertheless, the Disciples were dedicated to shielding vulnerable sentients from the injustices and wrongdoings perpetrated by the powerful.

By 137 ABY, amidst the backdrop of the Second Imperial Civil War, the Disciples of Twilight had yet to formally align themselves with any of the factions involved. These factions included Dark Lord of the Sith Darth Krayt's Galactic Empire, the deposed Emperor Roan Fel's Empire-in-exile, and the remnants of the Galactic Alliance. However, whispers from within the organization hinted at an impending decision to choose a side.

Philosophy and techniques

After the formation of the Disciples of Twilight by the individual known as "Twilight," the members of the group endeavoured to combine their skills, allowing them to thrive in Dysepth's dark environment. Eventually, they focused on protecting the people of Dyspeth. The group adhered to the concept of "shadowy justice"; when the tradition's members spread across the galaxy after Dyspeth's discovery by the Republic, they sought to protect weaker sentients from the cruelty of the strong. While the Disciples of Twilight consisted primarily of Dyspeth natives, anyone who was Force-sensitive and agreed with the Disciples' beliefs was welcome to join.

The Force adepts within the Disciples of Twilight primarily aimed to manipulate light using the Force. Following Dyspeth's discovery by the Republic, members of the tradition who traveled throughout the galaxy discovered that they could use their Force powers to a greater extent, as most worlds were brighter than their own. The Disciples of Twilight possessed abilities comparable to the Fallanassi, who also had the ability of bending light. However, the group's members used other Force abilities that were unheard of anywhere else in the galaxy. Members used the Force to manipulate both light and darkness; the Disciples were capable of using the powers Cloak of Shadow and Shadow Armor to bend light so that they could render themselves invisible. They used the Force to gain low-light vision and to locate enemies that concealed themselves. The adepts could also utilize the Force to create illusory phantoms around an enemy.

Behind the scenes

The Disciples of Twilight were initially presented in the Legacy Era Campaign Guide, published by Wizards of the Coast for the Star Wars Roleplaying Game and released on March 17, 2009. Within the campaign guide, the group was showcased as a novel Force-using tradition. Later, Dyspeth was incorporated into The Essential Atlas, with its sector placement detailed in its online companion.
