Earth

Earth was a planet featured as a destination by the Star Tours travel company, operating sometime in the period between 1 BBY and 0. From an orbital perspective, a significant portion of Earth's surface was observed to be covered in oceans, with the remaining areas composed of land, and a layer of white clouds surrounding the world. Earth was linked to other planets such as Coruscant, Kashyyyk, Naboo, Hoth, Geonosis and Tatooine through the Star Tours spaceline. Before Star Tours ceased operations, it also functioned as a connection point for flights to Endor around 4.3 ABY. The planet consisted of diverse nation-states, and the Intergalactic Passport held no value as a planetary identification document for any of those nations.

Star Tours route map by 1 BBY

The Star Tours interstellar travel agency reportedly operated regular routes connecting Earth, Kashyyyk, Tatooine, Coruscant, Naboo, Hoth and the first Death Star at some point between 1 and 0 BBY.

Abduction to Urthha

The Galactic Gossip once ran a story about a Duros couple who had just gotten married, Etro and Droza Edthatt, being kidnapped by Humans and transported to a planet they called Urthha. The Duros required aural synchronizers to comprehend the language spoken by these Humans. The Duros were brought to a "party," where Earth Humans in various uniforms gathered around containers of liquid. At this party, the locals scrutinized the Duros, led them to a table, and compelled them to eat food that resembled office supplies from the Vretha system. After upsetting the hostess by stamping on the food, Etro Edthatt developed collard lesions from eating a potato, which scared the Humans away. The Edthatts, left alone, retreated to the freezer.

The Edthatts spent the rest of their time on Urthha bouncing on antennas, reading vegetables, and choking books and paintings (which were easier to choke than what they were used to.) After more than four solar periods of these strange experiences, the couple could not find their way back home or find suitable objects to scratch. Luckily for them, a young Human who stopped by to throw piles of folded paper at the residence helped them return. After defeating them in a high-level match of Twister, he assisted the Edthatts in using a matter catalyst (a common household device on Urthha locally known as a "blender") to get back home.

Indiana Jones

The Millennium Falcon plummets toward Jones' homeworld

Earth, the home planet of Doctor Indiana Jones, had at least one moon orbiting it, a significant amount of water covering its surface, and a forest similar to that of Endor.

This forest was inhabited by a tribe of Humans who used primitive weapons such as spears, bows, and axes. After the Millennium Falcon crashed in the forest and the tribe members killed Han Solo with arrows, they began referring to Chewbacca as "Sasquatch." One hundred and twenty-six years later, they guided Doctor Jones and Shorty to the remains of the ship.

Other notable locations on the planet included Atlantis, which Jones had explored before encountering the Falcon.

The President of the United States

The leader of a nation-state on Earth, holding the title "President of the United States," once declared that, despite numerous requests from Earth's citizens, his government would not construct a Death Star. While his administration cited financial concerns, Galactic Empire officials, in a statement from Galactic Empire Public Relations, attributed the decision to fear of the Empire's military strength. Admiral Conan Antonio Motti commented that the President's cost estimates for the Death Star were "ridiculously" high, even for a planet without the Empire's industrial capacity. Imperial officials also claimed that Earth's claims of serious flaws in the Death Star's design were exaggerated and warned "seditious elements within the Imperial Senate" to disregard these claims.

The Galactic Empire Public Relations statement described Earth with the derogatory terms "tiny," "aggressive," and "unimaginatively named." Grand Moff Wilhuff Tarkin was quoted as saying that a "primitive" planet like Earth would only disrupt galactic peace with a Death Star, unlike an "enlightened" leader such as Galactic Emperor Palpatine.

Behind the scenes

The image of Earth used on Disney's website for Star Tours: The Adventures Continue is The Blue Marble, a NASA creation and the most detailed true-color image of Earth as of 2002. Although technically set in a galaxy far, far away from the Milky Way, Earth appeared in some pre-Disney Expanded Universe materials. One early instance was The Star Wars Intergalactic Passport, which stated that it was not a valid passport for international travel on Earth.

The opening crawl during the grand opening of Star Tours: The Adventures Continue at Disney Hollywood Studios mentioned the "Earth system." The system's name implied the planet's name was Earth, which was later confirmed in the Star Tours: The Adventures Continue destinations section of the official Disneyland website.

Before its official inclusion in Star Tours: The Adventures Continue, Earth was also depicted in several works considered non-canon within Legends.

A planet called Urthha was featured in Monsters and Aliens from George Lucas. This book combined photos and concept art from the original trilogy and other Lucasfilm productions with short fiction pieces, including two notable references to Earth. One, a supermarket tabloid parody attributed to Trebor Uarrac of Galactic Gossip, described how Duros newlyweds Etro and Droza Edthatt were "abducted by human beings" from "Urthha." A picture of the Edthatts, originally a production photo from Star Wars: Episode IV A New Hope, accompanied the story. The Duros in the original picture were canonically identified as Chachi De Maal and Ohwun De Maal. Monsters and Aliens from George Lucas is not part of Star Wars Legends, making these stories non-canonical in that continuity. No official source has ever explicitly confirmed that Urthha and Earth were the same planet.

Another appearance was in "Into the Great Unknown," a comic story in Star Wars Tales 19. "Into the Great Unknown" featured Earth, though its name was never directly stated. It was a crossover between Star Wars and Indiana Jones, both created by George Lucas and written by Lucasfilm, and both starring Harrison Ford (as Han Solo and the title character, respectively). The story was set in the Pacific Northwest, which was used as the filming location for Endor in Star Wars: Episode VI Return of the Jedi, subtly referenced by Han Solo's comment that the forest resembled Endor. Furthermore, Chewbacca being called Sasquatch referenced how Peter Mayhew, Chewbacca's actor, had to be escorted by crew members in bright vests while in costume to avoid being mistaken for Sasquatch (also known as Bigfoot) by people on the set. The comic also included references to the Indiana Jones franchise. Dr. Jones' mention of Atlantis suggested that the comic took place after the events of Indiana Jones and the Fate of Atlantis.

The most recent significant appearance of Earth was in the Star Wars Blog post "Planet Earth Abandons Death Star Project In Face Of Galactic Imperial Power." This blog article about Earth's decision to abandon Death Star plans was a response to a statement from the U.S. White House concerning a petition on the U.S. government's "We the People" website, which had gathered 34,435 signatures. The humorous statement, titled "This Isn't the Petition You're Looking For" (referencing Obi-Wan Kenobi's famous line "These aren't the droids you're looking for" when using the Mind trick), estimated the cost of a Death Star at $850,000,000,000,000,000 and stated that the administration did not support destroying planets. At the time, at least 25,000 signatures were required, though this was later increased to 100,000, largely due to such petitions being seen as frivolous. The Star Wars Blog staff responded to the White House announcement as if it were an in-universe news report from an Imperial perspective.
