Electrum

Electrum Faceted electrum

Electrum was a certain kind of crystal, exhibiting purple and blue hues, that was located within the Anoat sector. This crystal had the capability to be utilized as a finishing element, bestowing a reflective golden luster upon both weaponry and armor.

History

Mace Windu's lightsaber (pictured in use by Windu) featured an electrum finish.

Back in 232 BBY, the sunlight bounced from a Jedi symbol which was coated in electrum. This occurred at the Elphrona Outpost as Bell Zettifar, a Jedi Padawan, was getting ready for some training exercises alongside his master, Loden Greatstorm, a Jedi Knight. The lightsaber of Burryaga was completely plated with electrum. Avar Kriss, a Jedi Master, had a lightsaber that featured a single piece of silver-white electrum. The hilt of Mace Windu's lightsaber was uniquely finished with electrum, much like the lightsabers wielded by Darth Sidious.

The armor and personal F-11D blaster rifle belonging to Pyre, a Commander within the First Order, also incorporated an electrum finish, giving them a reflective golden appearance.

Behind the scenes

The initial appearance of electrum was in the form of the hilt finish on Windu's lightsaber, within the prequel trilogy movie titled Star Wars: Episode II Attack of the Clones, which premiered on May 16 of 2002. This material was first shown off in the trailer for Attack of the Clones, which was released earlier that year on March 10. Within the current canon of Star Wars, electrum was identified in the 2015 reference book titled Ultimate Star Wars.

Electrum was originally presented within the Star Wars Legends continuity, specifically within the 1996 roleplaying guide Shadows of the Empire Sourcebook by West End Games, penned by Peter M. Schweighofer. Its first appearance in novel form was in Barbara Hambly's 1997 book called Planet of Twilight. In reality, electrum is a naturally occurring alloy consisting of gold, silver, and other metals.

Within the 2019 video game Star Wars Jedi: Fallen Order, players had the option to customize Cal Kestis's lightsaber with electrum plating. In the 2023 sequel, Star Wars Jedi: Survivor, players were given the ability to customize the lightsaber, Kestis' blaster pistol, and BD-1, Kestis' droid companion, with electrum plating.
