Endrodanar Tiopuld Shaamador Vandelhelm XXIV

Endrodanar Tiopuld Shaamador Vandelhelm XXIV, often called Endro, alongside his elder sister Lillindri Nanimei Filda Vandelhelm XXXII, functioned as the Venerated Ones of Vandelhelm during the time of the Galactic Civil War. As the final remaining members of Vandelhelm's original royal family, and an embodiment of the planet's renowned metalworking industry, Endro and his sister were of paramount importance to the world's Metalsmiths Guild. To gain better leverage over the metalsmiths, the Galactic Empire had them imprisoned for a period of three years. In 4 ABY, the Alliance of Free Planets facilitated Endro and Lilli's return to their home. Subsequently, in 14 ABY, Endro, by then a teenager, unsuccessfully tried to depose his sister from her position as Guildmaster.

Biography

Endrodanar Tiopuld Shaamador Vandelhelm XXIV, more frequently known as "Endro," was a Human male originating from Vandelhelm, a planet celebrated for its top-tier metals, alloys, and shipbuilding capabilities. Endro and his sister Lillindri Nanimei Filda Vandelhelm XXXII, nicknamed "Lilli," were the last two surviving members of the Vandelhelm lineage, tracing their ancestry back to the two families who first discovered the ore-rich world and developed the mining and smelting processes that secured Vandelhelm's significant standing in galactic trade. This ancestry earned them the title of "Venerated Ones" during the Galactic Civil War. Despite not being official royalty, their heritage made them exceptionally important to the planet's Metalsmiths Guild, who regarded them as a symbol of their craft.

In 1 ABY, Orrk, the Guildmaster who was aligned with the Imperial regime, orchestrated the arrest and imprisonment of Endro and Lilli in an internment camp located on Ord Vaug. His aim was to tighten his grip on the metalsmiths' production. After enduring three years in Imperial custody, the Alliance of Free Planets finally rescued the Venerated Ones in 4 ABY. At that time, Endro was still quite young, always staying close to his older sister as Alliance heroes Han Solo and Nien Nunb personally escorted them back to Vandelhelm aboard Solo's Millennium Falcon. Orrk, along with his Imperial associate, Admiral Mordur, made a desperate attempt to maintain control over Vandelhelm by trying to eliminate the siblings. However, Solo and Lilli thwarted their plans by killing Orrk and his stormtrooper reinforcements.

Following Orrk's demise and the removal of Imperial influence from Vandelhelm, Lilli was appointed Guildmistress of the Metalsmiths Guild the day after Solo's departure, at the age of 15. Within ten years, Endro had become his sister's security advisor and spokesperson, despite his youth, during a time when Lilli's authority over the Metalsmiths Guild faced numerous internal and external challenges. As fate would have it, Endro himself would become one of those challenges, as he coveted his sister's position. In 14 ABY, Vandelhelm held a ceremony to commemorate the 10th anniversary of the Venerated Ones' return, with Solo and Nunb in attendance. To celebrate a decade of partnership between Vandelhelm and the New Republic, Vandelhelm's shipwrights and metalsmiths built a "Solo fleet" of freighters filled with precious metals and treasures, destined for the New Republic's shipyards on Fondor.

Endro devised a plan to use a protocol droid, which he had modified to act as Lilli's bodyguard, to attack and assassinate both her and Solo during the ceremony. He hoped to blame Nunb for the murders, accusing him of sabotaging the droid in the name of "Sullustan rights." His intention was then to seize complete control of the guild and sell the "Solo fleet" to the highest bidder. However, Nunb intervened, neutralizing the droid before it could strike. Upon realizing Endro's involvement in the attempted assassination, Solo confronted him. Although Endro managed to land a few blows, he ultimately suffered a severe beating at the hands of the Corellian war hero.

Personality and traits

Even at a relatively young age, Endro demonstrated a notable capacity for treachery, as evidenced by his attempt to overthrow his sister and seize power while still a teenager. However, his secretive and antisocial tendencies gave him away, arousing suspicion before he could execute his plan. Despite his youth, Endro possessed an extraordinary aptitude for technology, displaying extensive knowledge of Vandelhelm's security systems and even modifying a protocol droid to serve as his sister's bodyguard.

Behind the scenes

Endro made his debut appearance in Star Wars (1977) 98, authored by Archie Goodwin, illustrated by Al Williamson, and released in 1985. His complete name was later revealed in the 2004 Wizards of the Coast article Vandelhelm: Enemies and Alloys, penned by Cory J. Herndon.
