Energy spheres represented spherical constructs originating from the ancient Zeffonian civilization. These spheres possessed the dual capability of containing and channeling significant quantities of energy. Their primary function was to energize Zeffo technological systems, including those present within their burial chambers, and the Tomb Guardians assigned to their protection.
Spheres manifested in a range of dimensions, from the relatively diminutive orbs housed within the chest cavities of Tomb Guardians, to the substantially larger spheres that supplied power to Zeffonian technology inside their tombs. Despite their considerable size, these larger spheres could be readily moved via application of the Force.
Zeffo script was etched across the diameters of the spheres, which were fabricated from a metal with a bronze-like tint. The spheres exhibited considerable resilience, enduring for numerous years following the Zeffo's disappearance. However, some spheres sustained damage and breakage by the time Cal Kestis discovered the Zeffo burial sites. A subtle rumbling sound emanated constantly from within the spheres, intensifying upon movement. Certain spheres comprised multiple layers rotating in differing directions around a central, luminous blue energy core. On spheres lacking rotating components, this blue energy was visible emanating from the inscribed script. Those located within Tomb Guardians were suspended within their exposed chests by similar blue energy. Force users could temporarily extract a sphere from a Guardian, briefly disabling it. Provided they remained intact, Zeffo energy spheres operated continuously and entirely autonomously.
The smaller sphere variant was employed to power Tomb Guardians within an ancient Zeffo temple situated on the planet Ontotho, as well as within the Tomb of Miktrull and the Tomb of Eilram on Zeffo. The larger sphere type was found in an underground area of the planet Bogano, and also within the two tombs on Zeffo. Furthermore, Jedi Master Eno Cordova utilized an energy sphere to power his workshop on Bogano.
Eno Cordova and his Padawan Cere Junda risked their lives to reveal the secrets harbored within the temple on Ontotho, where they faced the perilous energy sphere-powered Tomb Guardians.
In 14 BBY, five years following the collapse of the [Jedi Order](/article/jedi_order], former Jedi Padawan Cal Kestis explored the Tombs of Eilram and Miktrull accompanied by the droid BD-1, discovering and employing the spheres to navigate the environments. He also encountered the Tomb Guardians, which reacted aggressively to his presence, employing the power of their core spheres to launch attacks against him.
Within the 2019 video game Star Wars Jedi: Fallen Order, the utilization of energy spheres is prevalent as a puzzle element within various rooms of the game. Players are commonly tasked with manipulating the energy spheres via the Force to relocate them to their designated locations.
