Bogano

Bogano, a planet blanketed in grass, resided within the Outer Rim Territories. Largely uncharted during the Imperial Era, it was absent from all known maps. Its terrain was characterized by mesas and swamplands. The ancient Zeffonian civilization constructed a significant Vault on this planet. The presence of the Binog, a creature of great cultural and artistic importance to the Zeffo, made Bogano significant to them. Jedi Master Eno Cordova also hypothesized that the site was chosen due to the faint electromagnetic winds, which, while weaker than those on Zeffo, were still present. It appears that at least one Zeffo colony was established on Bogano, likely as a place of pilgrimage. Cordova concealed a holocron containing a list of Force-sensitive children from across the galaxy within the Vault.

Description

Located in the Outer Rim region of the galaxy, Bogano was a relatively untouched and sparsely inhabited planet. Its landscape was dominated by expansive, grassy plains, punctuated by deep ravines and sinkholes composed of limestone and clay. Beneath the planet's shallow surface were also water-filled caves.

History

Ancient history

In the distant past, before the Imperial Era, Bogano held great importance for the Zeffonian species because it was the native home of the revered Binog, an amphi-mammalian creature. The Zeffo erected a Vault on Bogano, which was shielded by the Force.

Imperial Era

Prior to the Great Jedi Purge, Jedi Master Eno Cordova discovered Bogano and established a workshop there.

Jedi Padawan Cal Kestis and former Jedi Cere Junda arrive at the Bogano Vault in search of knowledge to rebuild the Jedi Order.

In 14 BBY, Cere Junda brought Cal Kestis to Bogano with the intention of unlocking the secrets held within the Bogano Vault and rebuilding the Jedi Order.

Kestis eventually made his way back to the planet, where he utilized the astrium, an ancient Zeffo artifact acquired from Dathomir, to open the Vault. The Second Sister followed him, subsequently stealing the holocron and escaping. Kestis defeated several squads of stormtroopers on the planet, indicating that the Galactic Empire had discovered Bogano's location.

Galactic Civil War

Princess Leia Organa and aspiring Jedi Luke Skywalker checked to see if Bogano could be used as a rebel base.

During the Galactic Civil War, Princess Leia Organa visited Bogano to assess its suitability as a potential base for the Alliance to Restore the Republic. Upon arriving, she encountered her friend and fellow rebel, Luke Skywalker. Leia inquired about his presence there instead of exploring other planets. Luke explained that the Force had guided him to Bogano, and together, they examined the planet. They encountered a bogling that led them to the Bogano Vault. Luke sensed a strong presence of the Force within the Vault, but despite Leia's initial impression that the planet could serve as a viable base, Luke disagreed. His intuition proved correct when the small animal led them to a group of stormtroopers who were attempting to capture several boglings. The stormtroopers intended to sell the animals, which could fetch a high price on the black market. Luke and Leia engaged the Imperial troops, rescued the animals, and departed from the planet.

New Republic Era

During the New Republic Era, a New Republic reconnaissance squad explored planets like Bogano to gather biological information on various species. This information was then compiled and published in the survival compendium titled "Species From A to Z".

Around or after 34 ABY, SF-R3 and CAM journeyed to Bogano in search of a Bogling.

Behind the scenes

Concept art of Bogano from Star Wars Jedi: Fallen Order

Bogano was conceived as a location for the video game Star Wars Jedi: Fallen Order, which was developed by Respawn Entertainment. Throughout the game's development, Bogano's surface was consistently envisioned as a vast marshland. Respawn Entertainment faced the challenge of incorporating wall running and platforming elements into this relatively flat environment. To overcome this obstacle, they designed a layered geology for the planet, characterized by fractured cratered limestone and clay, which, in turn, facilitated the incorporation of visual themes related to exploration and the relentless passage of time. Liam MacDonald and Gabe Yeganyan created the concept art for Bogano.
