Splox

A splox represented a species of sizable, non-sentient insect. These creatures were indigenous to Bogano, a planet situated within the Outer Rim. Commonly observed in collective groups, splox were recognized for initiating synchronized assaults on the organisms they hunted. Possessing an omnivorous diet, these insects thrived in Bogano's wetland environments and on its mesa formations.

Biology and appearance

Splox were found on Bogano.

Occupying the planet Bogano, situated within the Outer Rim Territories of the galaxy, splox existed as sizable, quadrupedal insects. These creatures possessed a pair of diminutive, delicate wings, resembling those of sprites, which enabled them to levitate above the wetlands and mesas characteristic of their homeworld. Furthermore, splox exhibited appendages positioned beneath their eyes, and their orange-hued bodies were encased in blue shells terminating in pointed tips. When subjected to attack, splox demonstrated the ability to distort their physical form, thereby creating a rapid staggering effect on their adversaries and affording time for fellow splox to launch counterattacks.

Behavior

As an omnivorous species, splox typically congregated in packs. Despite their non-sentient nature, they exhibited a propensity for coordinating attacks to overwhelm their chosen prey. One notable example of such prey was the bogling, a type of burrowing animal.

History

In the year 14 BBY, the human Jedi known as Cal Kestis embarked on a journey to Bogano, where he encountered a deceased splox. Employing the technique of psychometry, Kestis discerned that the splox had met its end while attempting to raid a bogling nest. During his sojourn on the planet, Kestis engaged in combat with and eliminated several splox, utilizing his lightsaber as his weapon.

Behind the scenes

The initial appearance of splox occurred in the 2019 video game titled Star Wars Jedi: Fallen Order. Within the context of the game, splox function as enemy units that materialize on the Bogano map. The tactical guide entry pertaining to splox within the game elucidates: "Attack in large groups and able to contort. Evasive strikes but easily killed."

Conceived as a hybrid of a lobster and a trilobite, the splox held the distinction of being the inaugural enemy unit to undergo preproduction, yet it remained among the final elements to be fully realized. Throughout the creature's developmental phase, the sole aspect that remained unaltered was its animation rig. The conceptual artwork for splox was executed by artists Jean-Francois Rey and Jaehyup Keum.
