The Subterranean Refuge was a system of caves situated on the planet of Bogano, specifically found underneath the Binog Mesa. Within the Subterranean Refuge, one could encounter bog rats.
This sinkhole cave, known as the Subterranean Refuge, was located beneath the Binog Mesa on Bogano, and was heavily populated with bog rats. Its rock walls displayed white and brown stripes. The refuge comprised a circular chamber and an elongated, oval chamber. The oval chamber terminated in a confined, walled incline that ascended to a small, level area. Both the circular and oval chambers featured circular openings that provided access to the surface of Bogano. An aperture in the circular chamber's side led to the Great Divide, with a flat-topped rocky pillar positioned within the cave, directly in front of the opening. This pillar, along with several other elevated rock formations, was covered in green plant life. One elevated area was connected to the cave floor by metal supports. The cave floor was partially submerged in water, which served as a habitat for para fish and a kalpi plant.
Adjacent to the metal supports was a mesh covered in lush green vegetation. Beneath this mesh, and on various other walls within the chamber, were electronic lights and their corresponding wiring. A substantial canister, illuminated along one side, was suspended from the ceiling by supports. A metallic panel covered a significant portion of the adjacent wall near the cave's apex. Furthermore, an array of mounted dishes was suspended from the ceiling in multiple locations. Atop the chamber's highest platform rested a large, carved block. The chamber containing the narrow slope was linked to the circular chamber by two passages, one situated at its base and the other at its ceiling. Its depressed floor was partially flooded, but a series of elevated rocky platforms were positioned between the passage from the other chamber and the slope.
During his research on Bogano, the Jedi Master Eno Cordova utilized the Subterranean Refuge as a space for meditation. However, he experienced feelings of solitude within the cave, longing for his Padawan, Cere Junda. He left behind a small box, a stool, and a bag that he had brought from the planet Coruscant. In 14 BBY, the former Padawan Cal Kestis, accompanied by his droid BD-1, explored the refuge while attempting to reach the Bogano Vault. The duo entered the area containing the narrow slope, where they were observed by a binog peering down from the skylight above. BD-1 then approached the slope, prompting Kestis to investigate. They observed three zaur scaling the slope's walls and venturing into the broader space. Witnessing the zaur triggered a memory for Kestis of training with his Jedi Master, Jaro Tapal, to use the Force for wall-running, enabling him to remember how to execute the technique. The former Padawan subsequently employed this ability when exiting the refuge.
While present in the refuge, Kestis also came across Cordova's box, stool, and bag. He then employed psychometry to glean information about Cordova from these items. Additionally, he located a crate containing a health stim and instructed BD-1 to scan the para fish and a kalpi.
The Subterranean Refuge was featured in the 2019 video game Star Wars Jedi: Fallen Order, developed by Respawn Entertainment.
