Quadrupedal herbivores of the mammalian variety, known as Eopies, were indigenous to the planet Tatooine. Their hardy nature allowed them to thrive in the harsh deserts of their homeworld, leading to their domestication by the inhabitants of Tatooine. While often employed as beasts of burden or modes of transport, they were notorious for their ill-temper and obstinacy, and prone to releasing gas when overburdened.
Eopies, quadrupedal herbivores belonging to the mammalian class, originated on the planet Tatooine. Thriving in the harsh deserts of their homeworld, these resilient creatures averaged 1.75 meters in height, and were consequently tamed by the local population. Their thick hides offered protection from the intense heat of Tatooine's twin suns, while their hooves were well-suited for navigating rocky terrain.
The eopie's trunk-like mouth possessed the ability to produce a sticky saliva. This saliva was then applied over their eyes as a protective measure during sandstorms. Although primarily herbivorous, they shared with banthas the capacity to consume meat without adverse effects, as evidenced by Obi-Wan Kenobi's eopie, Akkani, who eagerly consumed meat scraps during his time in exile on Tatooine.
Horned eopies were a distinct type of Eopie found on the planet At Achrann.
Eopies were recognized for their resilience and protective instincts towards their offspring. Young eopies sought shade by staying close to their parents. During sandstorms, parent eopies would apply a protective layer of saliva to their young's heads. Eopies were known to produce flatulence. Therefore, when traveling with a caravan of eopies, it was advised to ride the lead animal.
Eopies frequently served as beasts of burden or transports on Tatooine, despite their reputation for being bad-tempered and stubborn, and their tendency to break wind when carrying heavy loads. Eopies were also present on the planet Saleucami, the desert moon Zardossa Stix, and within the forests and jungles surrounding the Black Spire Ruins of Batuu.
On certain planets, eopie meat was considered a delicacy. Power Sliders, a diner situated in a small settlement on the isolated world of Abafar, featured eopie stew on its menu.
Initially, the kaadu from Naboo was intended to fulfill the role later held by the eopie. However, the evolving narrative of Star Wars: Episode I The Phantom Menace, which depicted the Gungans as soldiers riding beasts, led to the kaadu's placement on Naboo, thus prompting the creation of the eopie. An early production painting by Doug Chiang showing a kaadu hauling a podracer engine on Tatooine was digitally altered in Adobe Photoshop to form the image of the eopie.
