Pons Ora stood as one of the scarce settlements dotting the surface of Abafar, a secluded desert planet situated within the Outer Rim Territories. During the era of the Clone Wars, it accommodated a Separatist rhydonium mining installation.
Throughout the Clone Wars period, the Confederacy of Independent Systems utilized the mining installation at Pons Ora for rhydonium extraction, as the resource had become largely depleted elsewhere on the planet of Abafar.
Following the Battle of Sarrish, a significant defeat for the forces of the Galactic Republic, clone commando Captain Gregor, a survivor of that conflict, found himself on Abafar suffering from amnesia. He was discovered by Borkus, a Sullustan inhabitant of Pons Ora. Despite recognizing Gregor as a soldier, Borkus exploited his amnesia, employing him as a dishwasher at his eatery, Power Sliders, paying him meager wages due to his lack of awareness of his true identity.
Later in the conflict, D-Squad, a specialized Republic team primarily composed of droids, experienced a crash landing on Abafar while returning from a mission aimed at securing a Separatist encryption module. After navigating the Void for a period, all members of the unit eventually arrived at Pons Ora. The astromech droids, under the guidance of R2-D2, reached the settlement well in advance of Zilkin Colonel Meebur Gascon and DUM-series pit droid WAC-47. After reuniting, Gascon dispatched the astromechs to survey the town, while he sought sustenance for himself. Gascon selected the Power Sliders diner, but he and WAC were promptly evicted by Borkus after Gascon loudly identified himself as a Republic officer, partly to prevent them from encountering Gregor. However, prompted by WAC, Gascon circled around to the rear of the establishment to scavenge for food and unexpectedly encountered the amnesiac clone, who was deeply perplexed by the pair's insistence that he was a soldier.
