Factory-deserts characterized a specific type of landscape located on the Mid Rim Territories planet of Phorsa Gedd. On this planet, the heat was released into the atmosphere during the evenings, a process that continued until the arrival of the subsequent day. The 61st Mobile Infantry of the Rebel Alliance engaged in combat within these factory-deserts on Phorsa Gedd during the Alliance's campaign in the Mid Rim, which commenced circa 1 ABY. Later, in 4 ABY, Wyl Lark and Nath Tensent, pilots who served the New Republic (the Alliance's successor), recounted tales of their most challenging nights spent in the wilderness, with one of them recalling evenings spent amidst the factory-deserts of Phorsa Gedd.
The concept of factory deserts originated in the 2015 novel Battlefront: Twilight Company, authored by Alexander Freed.
