During the High Republic Era, a specific type of fermented drink, combining milk and tea, known as fermented milk tea, was available for purchase at a bar. This establishment was situated within a hub not far from the equatorial forests located on the Outer Rim world of Ryloth. No earlier than 379 BBY, Marda Ro, the Evereni who established the pirates that would evolve into the Nihil, stopped by this bar while on her search for others of her species. She ordered and consumed fermented milk tea. This beverage was later referenced by Ro in a recording intended for her descendants. By 252 BBY, Marchion Ro, her great-great-grandson, had heard this recording during his younger years, and the reference to fermented milk tea was included.
The short story "A Closed Fist Has No Claws," penned by Tessa Gratton, featured fermented milk tea in a flashback sequence. This story was included in the young-adult anthology The High Republic: Tales of Light and Life, which was released in 2023 as part of the broader Star Wars: The High Republic project encompassing multiple media formats.
