The criminal organization known as the Black Sun was embroiled in a Ryloth disaster around 3 ABY. The incident, which took place on the Outer Rim world of Ryloth, was deemed by the renegade archaeologist Doctor Chelli Lona Aphra to be an event of importance for Black Sun.
In that year, while she was at an auction held by the criminal syndicate Crimson Dawn to gather information on Crimson Dawn and other competitors of Lady Domina Tagge's Tagge Corporation, Aphra observed the presence of Black Sun, and she identified the syndicate's Lord Gyuti to the smuggler Sana Starros. The archaeologist then wondered aloud if Black Sun had ever recovered from the Ryloth disaster, observing that Gyuti was still alive, suggesting to her that the syndicate had indeed recovered.
The Ryloth disaster was referenced in the twelfth edition of the 2020 comic book series Star Wars: Doctor Aphra. Alyssa Wong wrote the edition, and Marvel Comics released it on July 14, 2021. Before the comic's release, the disaster was mentioned in a preview article about the edition, which was published on StarWars.com on July 7 of the same year.
