Fireblue Squadron functioned as a squadron of I4 Ionizer starfighters within the Core Fleet of the Galactic Alliance. This elite unit, Fireblue Squadron, was established with the purpose of executing assignments focused on the capture and subjugation of opposing vessels.
Fireblue Squadron was assembled in the aftermath of the Alliance's defeat at the conclusion of the Sith–Imperial War. The squadron was often assigned to tasks that involved disabling large freighters, securing high-value individuals, and subduing civilian ships amidst the subsequent Imperial Civil War.
During the Second Imperial Civil War, which commenced in 130 ABY, Fireblue Squadron was a distinguished starfighter squadron serving the Galactic Alliance Core Fleet. Following the end of the Sith–Imperial War, which resulted in the Alliance's defeat by the Galactic Empire aligned with the Sith, Alliance Admiral Gar Stazi gave the order to form the squadron. The squadron's specific purpose was to undertake missions aimed at capturing and subduing enemy starships. Fireblue Squadron utilized I4 Ionizer starfighters to accomplish its objectives, and the unit derived its name from the intense blue-colored ion energy emitted by the fighter's primary weapon.
Throughout the civil war, the squadron was routinely tasked with disabling expansive freighters, thereby enabling the Alliance to seize the ships and their cargo. Furthermore, Fireblue Squadron was deployed to capture valuable targets and subdue civilian ships that the Alliance sought to disable rather than destroy.

Fireblue Squadron employed I4 Ionizer starfighters to effectively meet its primary mission objective of capturing and immobilizing enemy vessels. Each fighter was operated by a single pilot alongside an astromech droid and was outfitted with multiple ion cannons, a pair of wing-mounted disruptor torpedoes, and underpowered laser cannons. While possessing robust armor, the fighter's defensive capabilities were limited to light shielding due to the interference generated by its extensive ion weaponry. These hyperspace-capable crafts were the premier small fighters of their time for disabling ships while preserving their structural integrity. A squadron like Fireblue Squadron, equipped with I4 Ionizers, could immobilize a small freighter with a single attack run and larger vessels with multiple attacks.
The Legacy Era Campaign Guide, a roleplaying game sourcebook from Wizards of the Coast published in 2009, included the initial mention of Fireblue Squadron.
