Battle of Lok (32 BBY)
A skirmish took place in 32 BBY on the planet of Lok. This conflict involved the Trade Federation clashing with the Lok Revenants following an act of space piracy. The clash unfolded across three distinct engagements between the two factions. Ultimately, the pirates were compelled to abandon their operational headquarters.
Background
On the world of Lok, the pirate Nym commanded a group of pirates. He and his crew targeted Trade Federation shipments moving through the Karthakk system.
The Skirmish
Space Piracy Over Lok
The initial stage of this skirmish was a piracy operation. Nym, piloting his Havoc, ambushed a Trade Federation convoy. One Superfreighter was rendered inoperable, and four smaller freighters were obliterated. The remaining ships managed to jump to hyperspace. After the majority of the Scarab fighters were dealt with, the Trade Federation dispatched a Trade Federation Missile Frigate along with two repair ships in an attempt to salvage the Superfreighter. However, all three vessels were destroyed. The crippled freighter then released its payload of droid starfighters, all of which were promptly destroyed. With all resistance eliminated, the freighter began to plummet towards Lok.
Cargo Recovery
Following the freighter's crash landing, a pirate freighter, escorted by low-flying pirate speeder bikes, located the wreckage and commenced unloading its cargo. However, the Trade Federation responded by deploying a strike force composed of multiple AATs and Scarab fighters to secure the downed freighter. A Recovery Freighter was also observed, indicating the Trade Federation's intention to retrieve the cargo. This recovery freighter was subsequently destroyed. Two Trade Federation Dropships attempted a low-altitude approach to land near the crash site but were also destroyed before they could touch down. Nym then eliminated the AATs advancing towards the recovery operation. The pirate freighter successfully collected the cargo and proceeded along a nearby river towards a cave to evade pursuit. Nym, along with the speeder bikes, escorted the freighter to the cave, which led to Nym's Base.
Assault on Nym's Stronghold
Under the cover of darkness, a speeder bike on patrol collided with a Trade Federation military convoy en route to the Lok Revenants' stronghold. After the patrol dispatch failed to reestablish contact, an alarm was triggered, and the Revenants mobilized their fighters. Nym provided cover for the base's primary defense, the Inferno Turret, destroying two dropships before they could deploy any tanks. Ground control reported that all scouts were accounted for, except Jinkins. Nym successfully provided cover for Jinkins, allowing him to reach the base safely and board his Freefall. Nym was alerted to incoming waves of Trade Federation droid bombers targeting the Inferno Turret. Recognizing the turret as their strongest defense, Nym managed to destroy the bombers before they could inflict any damage. Nym also destroyed two more dropships before they could deploy any AMTs. Meanwhile, the base's defense perimeter was under heavy fire from waves of AATs. Ground control, realizing that holding them off was impossible even with the Inferno Turret, expedited evacuation plans. Of the five freighters crewed by the Revenants, three were launched nearly empty as decoys to divert the Trade Federation's attention, buying time for the remaining two freighters to prepare for evacuation. Thanks to Nym maintaining air superiority over the base, all three decoys and the first pirate freighter escaped. However, the fifth freighter, "Rescue 1," remained grounded due to an engine failure. Nym provided air support for the ground base defenses, destroying multiple tanks. When Rescue 1 finally managed to take off, it was attacked by bombers and fighters, and before Nym could intervene, it was destroyed. Nym then verified that the base's self-destruct charges were set. After confirmation, he instructed ground control to activate the timer and evacuate, during which one of two C-9979 landing craft landing in the center of the base was destroyed in the explosion.
Outcome
The Lok Revenants were forced from their home with significant losses, but they retained the capacity to rebuild a resistance movement for at least a decade within the Karthakk system. With the assistance of Jedi Master Adi Gallia, they would eventually reclaim their home during the Second Battle of Lok.
The Trade Federation also incurred substantial losses. They subsequently transformed the stronghold into a droid foundry and hangar, and converted the surrounding area into refueling stations. They maintained control over the location for ten years before losing it back to the Lok Revenants. Meanwhile, Nym would continue to strike back at the Federation during the Invasion of Naboo.
Production Notes
This article draws its content from three sequential missions featured in the 2001 video game Star Wars: Starfighter: "Piracy Above Lok," "Valuable Goods," and "Eye of the Storm." In each of these missions, the player assumes the role of Nym, one of the game's three main characters. Each mission incorporates a set of optional bonus objectives. In the final mission, protecting Jenkins is considered a bonus objective, though canonically Jenkins survives and participates in the sequel Star Wars: Jedi Starfighter.
