Force-meld

Force-meld, also recognized as Jedi meld, United Jedi Cluster-Mind, or battle meld, represented a unique technique where a Force-sensitive individual linked their consciousness with others, mutually amplifying their power. Functioning as an advanced form of battle meditation, this practice was familiar to the ancient Jedi, albeit perilous. In contrast to battle meditation, which could impact both Force users and non-sensitive beings on either side of a conflict, Force Meld centered on synchronizing and strengthening the Force capabilities of those on the user's side.

Overview

Given that the number of Force-sensitives engaged in large-scale battles was generally far smaller than the number of non-sensitives, the demands of Force Meld were, in some ways, less extensive than those of battle meditation, as it influenced a smaller group of minds. Consequently, it was thought that Force Meld was somewhat easier to master, evidenced by the fact that the number of practitioners within the New Jedi Order reached nearly half the number of battle meditation experts in the old order.

Jorus C'baoth utilized this ability at least eight separate times during his lifetime. Anakin Solo reinvented it for the New Jedi Order amidst the Yuuzhan Vong War, enabling the Jedi battling the Yuuzhan Vong to function as a unified, potent entity. Under the guidance of Jacen Solo, Force Meld played a crucial role during the Mission to Myrkr, enhancing the effectiveness of the Myrkr strike team. Later, drawing inspiration from Joruus C'baoth's renowned power during the Thrawn campaign, Jaina Solo further refined Force Meld, employing it as a starfighter squadron strategy within her Twin Suns Squadron. Soon after, Madurrin implemented the meld as a coordination method between squadrons, a role that Jacen and Luke Skywalker soon adopted.

Extended application of this technique can lead to participants completing each other's sentences or thoughts. This ability can also be interpreted as a form of telepathic communication. Obi-Wan Kenobi cautioned that establishing a single entity state through Force Meld without causing mental harm or destruction required a Master with substantial power and profound connection to the Force. The potential drawbacks of Force Meld were a contributing factor to the Dark Nest Crisis.

The amplified power resulting from Force Meld was a double-edged sword: while the entity could wield greater influence over a larger number of minds, a significant disturbance in the Force could overwhelm the participants as they experienced the pain through their heightened senses. If the source of the pain originated from the minds being touched by the meld, the effects could be devastating, potentially causing participants to lose control of their own minds and become oblivious to other dangers.

The majority of light side participants in a meld could prevent an individual from succumbing to the dark side. However, if the participants held conflicting thoughts and lacked focus on a shared objective, the meld could become a hindrance rather than an advantage.

Behind the scenes

During a press conference, former U.S. President Barack Obama inadvertently alluded to the Force meld when he mentioned a "Jedi mind meld." This blending of terms from both the Star Wars and Star Trek franchises drew criticism from some fans, while others, including Lynne Hale, referenced this very article on Wookieepedia as evidence of the "Jedi meld's" existence. As noted in Jedi vs. Sith: The Essential Guide to the Force, "Jedi meld" is an alternate name for the Force meld.
