From a Certain Point of View is a collection of 40 short stories. To commemorate the 40th anniversary of Star Wars, it was made available on October 3, 2017. This anthology is the first in the From a Certain Point of View series. Each story provides the viewpoint of a minor character from Star Wars: Episode IV A New Hope. Several voice actors narrated the audiobook version of the title.
Forty stories for forty years.
This collection of Star Wars stories, celebrating the fortieth anniversary of Star Wars: A New Hope, includes works by bestselling authors, influential artists, and beloved figures from Star Wars' literary history. More than forty writers have contributed their distinct perspectives to forty "scenes," each offering a fresh take on a moment from the original Star Wars film. The twist? Each scene is narrated from the perspective of a background character. Star Wars: From a Certain Point of View offers a new perspective on the classic movie, whether it's the X-wing pilots assisting Luke in destroying the Death Star or the stormtroopers constantly searching for the elusive droids. It also honors the unparalleled cultural impact and legacy of Star Wars.
The hashtag #OperationBlueMilk was used to initially promote From a Certain Point of View on social media on April 6, 2017. The anthology was formally revealed on April 7, announcing a collection of 40 short stories by 40 authors to celebrate the 40th anniversary of Star Wars: Episode IV A New Hope, which debuted in 1977. The book saw its release in October of 2017. An e-book version is also available now.

The book presents the perspectives of background characters featured in A New Hope. This includes X-wing pilots who participated in the Battle of Yavin alongside Luke Skywalker, as well as stormtroopers searching for R2-D2 and C-3PO on Tatooine. Because the background characters in A New Hope were essential to creating the world that fans adore, this book expands on those characters within the official Star Wars canon.
From a Certain Point of View contains 40 stories penned by 43 authors. The stories, their respective authors, and the central characters are detailed below:
Before the book was published, more authors were revealed. All of the authors have chosen not to receive payment for their work. The book's earnings are being donated to First Book, a nonprofit that gives books and other educational resources to teachers and children's organizations. Penguin Random House has also contributed $100,000 to First Book, and Lucasfilm has given 100,000 children's books, valued at $1 million.
In Star Wars Insider 174, Adam Savage was named as a contributor to the book; however, his contribution was absent from the finished product.
The audiobook features a range of narrators, such as Jonathan Davis, Ashley Eckstein, Janina Gavankar, Jon Hamm, Neil Patrick Harris, January LaVoy, Saskia Maarleveld, Carol Monda, Daniel José Older, and Marc Thompson.
From a Certain Point of View is part of the Star Wars canon, yet it does present some inconsistencies. Matt Martin of the Lucasfilm Story Group verified that these inconsistencies were deliberate and intrinsic to the project's design.
