Geegee

Geegee was a droid in service to the rebuilt Jedi Order, which was under the direction of Jedi Master Luke Skywalker, at his temple. This droid worked on the Grimtaash, the vessel belonging to Ben Solo, who was Skywalker's nephew.

After Solo engaged in a confrontation with the Jedi Master and destroyed Skywalker's temple as a result, he boarded the Grimtaash with the intention of departing. Not knowing that the temple had been destroyed, Geegee questioned Solo about where he was planning to go. Solo then took the Grimtaash to a space station so that he could meet with Supreme Leader Snoke, with whom he had been communicating for some time.

Biography

Geegee and Ben Solo aboard the Grimtaash

By the year 28 ABY, Geegee was among the droids serving at the temple belonging to Jedi Master Luke Skywalker's restored Jedi Order. During that year, following a confrontation between Skywalker and his nephew and apprentice Ben Solo, Solo destroyed the temple. Geegee noticed the fire caused by the destruction, but did not realize the gravity of the situation. Instead, the droid completed a thorough maintenance check on Solo's starship, the Grimtaash. After a brief encounter with Hennix, Tai, and Voe, three of Skywalker's other Jedi students who were away from the temple when it was destroyed, Solo left the ruins, boarding his ship. Geegee greeted Solo, telling him about the ship's maintenance and asking about the fire at the temple, but Solo insisted that everything was fine and that he wanted to leave.

Solo piloted the Grimtaash away from the temple, but he was pursued by the surviving students. Solo destroyed the main engines of the students' ship, the Verity, leaving his pursuers stranded. After noticing that Solo had not selected a destination, Geegee asked if he needed a route calculated, suggesting his homeworld of Hosnian Prime. At that moment, Snoke, the Supreme Leader of the First Order, contacted Solo, having been in communication with and manipulating him for some time. Solo ignored Hosnian Prime and instead chose to travel to the space station where Snoke was located. The surviving Jedi intended to follow Solo, tracking his location through Geegee. Solo later traveled to the planet Elphrona, where his fellow Jedi caught up to him, and then to Varnak, where he abandoned the Grimtaash after joining the dark side group known as the Knights of Ren.

Characteristics

Geegee was a droid plated in silver with yellow photoreceptors. Like other droids at Skywalker's Jedi temple, Geegee was programmed to automatically transmit a transponder signal when it was away from the temple so that the ship it was on could be located. There were several gaps in the droid's plating where the wiring was visible. Geegee did not suspect that Solo was escaping from the Jedi temple and assumed that he was simply going on a trip.

Behind the scenes

Geegee made an appearance in the comic The Rise of Kylo Ren 1, which was written by Charles Soule, illustrated by Will Sliney, and published by Marvel Comics on December 18, 2019. The design of Geegee, with its exposed wires, was intended to be a reference to the lightsaber that Solo would later use as Kylo Ren.
