Voe

Voe, a human female strong in the Force, was a Jedi Padawan during the time of the New Republic Era. She became part of the Jedi Order under the guidance of Jedi Master Luke Skywalker. As one of Skywalker's students, Voe dedicated herself to training, but she perceived her own abilities as lesser compared to the more naturally talented Ben Solo.

While Voe was away from the Jedi Temple on a mission with fellow learners Hennix and Tai, the destruction of the Jedi Temple occurred. Upon their return, they discovered the devastation caused by Ben Solo, confronted him, and initiated a chase. Driven by impatience to see Solo brought to justice, Voe spearheaded a confrontation with him on the world of Elphrona. During this encounter, Solo nearly killed her after she accused him of murder, and in the ensuing chaos, Hennix was inadvertently killed by Solo.

After tracking Solo to the moon called Minemoon, Voe and Tai faced Solo alongside the Knights of Ren. Voe initially managed to resist the Knights, but their leader, Ren, killed Tai. Solo then embraced the dark side by killing Ren. Subsequently, he disarmed Voe and used Ren's lightsaber to end her life.

Biography

Jedi apprentice

Voe studied the Jedi arts as one of Luke Skywalker's apprentices.

Around 16 ABY, Voe, who was sensitive to the Force, began her training as a student under Jedi Master Luke Skywalker at his Jedi temple. Her fellow students included Ben Solo, Tai, and the Quarren named Hennix. She gained knowledge in various Jedi practices, such as telekinesis, lightsaber dueling, and meditation. Despite Skywalker's reassurance that everyone's connection to the Force varied, Voe felt envious of Solo's command over the Force and aspired to surpass him. Following Master Skywalker's mission to the planet Elphrona with Ben Solo, Voe learned of her master's confrontation with the Knights of Ren.

The burning temple

In 28 ABY, Voe, along with her Jedi companions Tai and Hennix, returned from a mission to find Skywalker's Jedi Temple engulfed in flames. After landing their starship, the Verity, Voe realized she couldn't sense anyone's presence on the ground. However, Tai detected Ben Solo nearby.

Ben informed them that Master Skywalker had attempted to kill him while he slept and believed the Jedi Master was now dead. Due to the existing tension between them, Voe disbelieved Solo, who responded by asserting his superiority over all three Jedi. Despite Tai's efforts to mediate, Voe and Hennix ignited their lightsabers. Voe charged at Solo, but he used the Force to freeze her in mid-air before throwing her into Hennix.

Voe, Tai, and Hennix confronted Ben Solo in the aftermath of the Jedi Temple's destruction.

The three Jedi activated their lightsabers, but Solo employed the Force to hurl debris at them. Hennix was struck in the chest by a piece of wood. While Voe and Tai tended to him, Solo escaped aboard his starship, the Grimtaash. Voe attempted to remove the debris, but Tai suggested it would be safer to do so on their ship. The three Jedi then returned to their vessel.

While Tai cared for the injured Hennix, Voe piloted the Verity and pursued the Grimtaash. However, Solo managed to escape into hyperspace after damaging one of the Verity's engines. Later, the three Jedi discussed their next course of action. Hennix suggested tracking Ben using a transponder inside his droid, Geegee. Tai proposed informing Solo's mother, Senator Leia Organa, but Voe persuaded them to first investigate the truth behind Solo's apparent betrayal and the destruction of the Jedi temple before involving anyone else.

Confrontation on Elphrona

Voe tried to attack Solo on Elphrona.

Voe, Tai, and Hennix successfully tracked Ben Solo to the Jedi outpost on Elphrona. Solo was preparing to meet with the Knights of Ren, a secretive dark side cult, on the planet Varnak. Determined to prevent anyone from hindering his plans, Solo engaged Voe, Tai, and Hennix in a lightsaber duel inside the outpost. Tai attempted to probe his mind, but Solo brushed him aside and fled outside.

Solo escaped to the top of a high rock formation. In pursuit, Voe used her Force abilities to Force jump after Solo. Unable to keep pace with Voe, Hennix urged her to reconsider, but she remained determined to chase Solo. When Voe accused Solo of being a murderer, an enraged Solo used a Force push against her, causing her to lose her lightsaber. However, he was soon overcome with guilt and tried to use the Force to levitate her to safety, but he lost his grip.

The Jedi's skirmish with Solo at Elphrona damaged the Jedi outpost.

Believing that Solo had caused Voe's death, Hennix attacked Solo but was accidentally killed by the fallen Jedi. Meanwhile, Tai managed to break Voe's fall using the Force. Before they could assist Hennix, Solo caught up to them and hurled them into the Jedi outpost. To prevent them from following him, Solo collapsed two statues on top of them before departing for Varnak.

Using their Force abilities, Voe and Tai managed to free themselves from the rubble. Tai revealed that he had learned Solo was seeking a cult known as the Knights of Ren. Voe, uninterested in this information, picked up Hennix's lightsaber and sought only to avenge his death. Tai, who had tried to help Solo, concluded that Solo was lost and needed to be stopped.

Solo later recounted his encounter with Voe to the dark sider Ren and the other Knights of Ren. Ren dismissed Voe as being all brawn. While he acknowledged that Solo had killed Hennix, he didn't consider it a "good death" since Solo hadn't intended to kill the Jedi. Nevertheless, he invited Solo to join their group, hoping that Solo would prove himself.

Death on the Minemoon

Voe stopped the Knights of Ren from killing the Mimbanese.

Using Tai's Force connection to Solo, the two Jedi tracked their former friend to Minemoon, where the Knights of Ren were attempting to seize a Force relic known as the Mindsplinter from the local Mimbanese. While Tai attempted to reason with Solo, he sent Voe to assist the Mimbanese.

Voe engaged the Knights' leader, Ren, preventing him from killing a second Mimbanese with his red lightsaber. When Ren boasted about fighting Master Skywalker, Voe retorted that she knew the story and that Skywalker had defeated the Knights of Ren. She then kicked Ren in the head.

Ren used the Force to shove Voe, who ordered one of his fellow acolytes, Kuruk, to shoot her with his blaster. However, Voe dodged his blaster bolts. She then led the Mimbanese in a charge against the Knights of Ren, denouncing them as destroyers and killers. Voe knocked Kuruk to the ground during the ensuing charge, declaring that she had been trained by Luke Skywalker. The skirmish escalated after Ren murdered Tai. Overcome with rage and grief, Solo killed Ren in combat, completing his descent to the dark side.

Solo stabbed Voe with Ren's lightsaber, ending the Jedi apprentice's life.

During his fall to the dark side, Ben unleashed Force lightning, scattering the combatants. After using the Force to retrieve Voe's lightsaber, Solo confronted his former comrade. A fearful and awed Voe remarked that Solo had killed Ren. Solo responded that he was a murderer and told Voe that she would never become a Jedi because there was no one left to train her. As the mine began to flood, Solo killed Voe by impaling her with Ren's lightsaber, questioning why she would even want to stay alive. Ben also threw Ren's lightsaber on her body and left it there.

Following the deaths of Voe, Tai, and Ren, Solo embraced the dark side and claimed the title of Master of the Knights of Ren. As a symbolic commitment to the dark side, he also bled his kyber crystal.

Personality and traits

Voe was jealous of Solo's mastery of the Force.

Voe was a human female with a dark complexion and white hair. She possessed ambition and aggression, and she envied Ben Solo's natural aptitude for mastering the Force. Her inability to surpass Solo made her feel angry and ashamed, emotions that Jedi were not meant to harbor. Voe was known for her fiery and impulsive nature, often initiating conflicts.

Voe's strained relationship with Solo led her to suspect his involvement in the destruction of the Jedi Temple. Her aggressive approach resulted in a confrontation with Solo, which prompted him to seek out Snoke. Voe also convinced Tai and Hennix not to involve outside parties in their investigation into Solo's alleged role in the Jedi Temple's destruction and Master Luke Skywalker's presumed death.

Voe's animosity towards Solo heightened tensions between Solo and his former Jedi companions during their confrontation on Elphrona. Despite Hennix's warnings, Voe attempted to pursue Solo by using the Force to jump. She readily believed that he had destroyed the Jedi Temple and killed Skywalker and the other Jedi, despite the absence of clear evidence. Although Solo used a Force push against her in a moment of rage, his subsequent regret led him to try to save her. While Tai ultimately saved Voe, Hennix was killed while trying to avenge the harm done to Voe. Hennix's death at Solo's hands only intensified her animosity towards Solo.

Voe was both shaken and awed by Solo's command of Force lightning during his fall to the dark side. Solo ultimately returned their mutual animosity by killing her after the deaths of Tai and Ren, solidifying his descent into darkness.

Powers and abilities

Voe has shown prowess in combat.

Voe was sensitive to the Force and wielded a green lightsaber. She also possessed the ability to levitate objects, engage in lightsaber duels, meditate, and use the Force to jump to great heights. Lacking Solo's innate mastery of the Force, she felt envious and insecure, striving to surpass him in various Jedi skills. While she never reached Ben's level, Voe's dedication made her a formidable combatant, capable of facing Ren on Minemoon.

Voe was also skilled at piloting the starship Verity. In addition to her lightsaber skills, Voe could dodge Kuruk's blaster bolts with the aid of the Force. She demonstrated leadership qualities by leading the Mimbanese in combat against the Knights of Ren.

Equipment

Voe wore tan Jedi robes. She carried a green-bladed lightsaber. After Hennix's death at Solo's hands, Voe took his blue-bladed lightsaber.

Behind the scenes

Voe made her first appearance in the Marvel Comics comic mini-series Star Wars: The Rise of Kylo Ren, which debuted with the release of The Rise of Kylo Ren 1 on December 18, 2019. She was created by comic writer Charles Soule and illustrator Will Sliney.
