This unit, comprised of heavily armored security officers, served to safeguard the corporation's various operations, existing as one of the organic elements alongside the Sullustan Home Guard. During the Clone Wars, which spanned from 22 BBY to 19 BBY, the Commerce Guild chose to align itself with the Confederacy of Independent Systems against the Galactic Republic, thereby integrating the Gossam Commandos into the ranks of the Separatist Droid Army.
Within current Star Wars canon, the Gossam Commandos were initially referenced in Rise of the Separatists, a 2019 supplement for the Star Wars Roleplaying game series by Fantasy Flight Games. In the Star Wars Legends timeline, the Gossam Commandos were initially introduced through "Republic HoloNet News Core Edition 15:01:03," an in-universe news report penned by Pablo Hidalgo. This article appeared in the seventy-second issue of Star Wars Insider magazine, released on December 2, 2003. Subsequently, they made their debut appearance in Hidalgo's "CIS Shadowfeed Dispatch 15:3:21 Edition" article, also presented from an in-universe point of view, within Star Wars Insider's seventy-sixth issue on May 18, 2004.
