The Sullustan Home Guard functioned as a sector-based defense force within the Commerce Guild's Punitive Security Forces by 22 BBY. Admiral Dua Ningo, a Sullustan officer, was among those who oversaw the home guard, which had the responsibility of safeguarding the Outer Rim Territories' Brema sector and the SoroSuub Corporation's assets across the galaxy. Before the Clone Wars began with the outbreak between the Galactic Republic and the Confederacy of Independent Systems (from 22 BBY to 19 BBY), the Commerce Guild aligned itself with the Separatists, integrating the Sullustan Home Guard into its naval branch for the duration of the conflict. Under the Confederacy's leadership, Admiral Ningo became a dedicated Separatist commander, and he and the home guard continued to protect the Brema sector and SoroSuub's business interests.
The Sullustan Home Guard's introduction to current Star Wars canon occurred in Rise of the Separatists, a 2019 release from Fantasy Flight Games for their Star Wars Roleplaying game line. Within the Star Wars Legends continuity, the Sullustan Home Guard was first seen in the Dark Empire Sourcebook, a supplement for Star Wars: The Roleplaying Game by West End Games published in 1993.
