Grik held membership within the Nihil pirate group around 232 BBY. During that year, Grik spent a day repairing the Gaze Electric's—Eye of the Nihil Marchion Ro's flagship—comm unit, which had stopped working because its wiring had been fried. Grik finished the comms repair on the Gaze Electric not long before the ship's journey to the Trymant system.
Grik's existence was revealed in "Tales of Villainy: The Gaze Electric," a supporting narrative presented in the sixth issue of the 2020 Star Wars Adventures compilation of comic stories. Daniel José Older penned the story, and IDW Publishing released the comic on July 7, 2021.
