Hedala Fardi, a young female human with an affinity for the Force, resided on the planet of Thabeska during the initial year of the Galactic Empire's reign. At the tender age of four, she held the position of the youngest member within a lineage of the Fardi clan, a prosperous smuggler syndicate operating on Thabeska. Possessing Force-sensitive abilities, Hedala exhibited the capacity to perceive impending threats from a considerable distance.
During the time when Ahsoka Tano, the former Jedi Padawan of the Togruta species, was employed by the Fardis as both a mechanic and a courier pilot, she forged a friendship with Hedala. Despite the difficulty most individuals encountered in distinguishing between the numerous female cousins within Hedala's branch of the Fardi clan, Hedala possessed a distinctive presence that ensured she was never forgotten. Her sister, Chenna, jokingly suggested that this unique quality would hinder Hedala's success in a life of criminal activity. Furthermore, Hedala's innate connection to the Force significantly enhanced her performance in various games she engaged in with her cousins, notably a throwing game. Over time, her cousins grew accustomed to her exceptional skill, attributing it to mere talent rather than recognizing its extraordinary nature.

Approximately two months before the first anniversary of Sheev Palpatine's (formerly Supreme Chancellor) rise to power as the Galactic Emperor, Tano was occupied with repairing one of the Fardis' droids when she observed a group of the youngest Fardi cousins, including Hedala, engaging in unauthorized play within the shipyard. As Tano prepared to scold them, a stack of crates upon which the children were playing began to topple, prompting her to utilize the Force to avert a potential disaster. While the other children remained oblivious to the intervention, Tano noticed Hedala, who was too young to participate in the game, observing the scene with a captivated expression. Tano became convinced that Hedala was the sole witness who had comprehended her actions, and three days later, she witnessed Hedala employing telekinesis to manipulate a small stone.
Shortly after the Empire Day festivities, Tano departed from Thabeska in an effort to evade the attention of the Empire. Subsequently, Hedala detected a "shadow" in the Force, which was later identified as the Inquisitor known as the Sixth Brother. The Sixth Brother had arrived on Thabeska following reports of a Force-sensitive individual residing on the planet, but his limited Force abilities prevented him from pinpointing the source, leading to his departure. Upon Tano's return after a brief sojourn to the moon of Raada, Hedala confided in Tano, who cautioned her to avoid the "shadow" should she sense it again. Tano subsequently informed Hedala's uncle, Fardi, that the youngest member of the clan was "special," implying her ability to harness the Force, and requested that he safeguard her. Hedala experienced a sense of sorrow upon Tano's departure.
