Raada, situated in the Outer Rim Territories, was a secluded moon primarily known for its farming activities. Originally, local agriculturalists governed the moon, but the Galactic Empire eventually seized control to cultivate nutrient-dense plants for their troop rations.
Even for the Outer Rim, Raada was exceptionally isolated, and the moon only had one major settlement. The only land suitable for farming and crop cultivation was the immediate area around the small settlement. The remainder of the moon consisted mostly of rocky terrain and barren hills with scattered caves.
The primary settlement was home to just a few hundred farmers, along with a few dozen additional workers. The Overseers initially maintained the colony, but Imperials bribed or coerced them into abandoning the moon.
One year after the Clone Wars concluded, [Ahsoka Tano](/article/ahsoka_tano], the former Padawan, found employment as a mechanic, using the alias Ashla. Shortly after her arrival, Imperial forces came to the moon with the intention of growing plants for military nutritional supplements. Jenneth Pilar, an Imperial bureaucrat, selected Raada for this purpose due to its isolation and small population, essentially deeming the moon disposable. However, this poorly planned agricultural endeavor depleted the soil of essential nutrients. As a result, the land would become unsuitable for future farming without the use of strong synthetic fertilizers, which the Empire failed to supply.
This ecological disaster, combined with the oppressive nature of the Imperials, fueled a growing resistance movement on the moon. Ahsoka tried to encourage the population to resist Imperial domination, but she disagreed with some of the more extreme tactics suggested by various farmers. Her situation was further complicated by her desire to conceal her identity for her own safety and the safety of others. Consequently, Ahsoka could not utilize her extensive military expertise gained from years of service in the Clone Wars.
After a failed assault on the Imperial base, Ahsoka was compelled to flee when she used the Force to protect her friends, revealing herself as a Force-sensitive in the process. She returned several weeks later, having coordinated the evacuation of the moon's inhabitants with the assistance of Bail Organa's forces. During the following battle, rebel A-wing pilots destroyed the Imperial crops, proving the success of Ahsoka's strategy.
The Raadan evacuees were initially given shelter in a refugee camp on Alderaan. Miara Larte, who had since joined the Rebellion, went back to the moon years later and discovered it was still deserted.
Raada made its debut in E. K. Johnston's 2016 novel, Ahsoka. In "By Whatever Sun," a short story that Johnston co-authored with Ashley Eckstein for the anthology From a Certain Point of View, Raada is incorrectly identified as a planet rather than a moon.
