Helix rings, functioning as potent energy amplifiers, contained the equivalent of enough unadulterated coaxium to fuel between forty and fifty starships. Seldom utilized due to their excessive power output, which was only practical for hyperspace travel, these rings were prone to malfunctions, especially as they aged. These malfunctions resulted in energy overloads capable of melting metals, destroying circuits, or even reducing a human body to its constituent atoms.
The Amaxine warriors employed helix rings to energize a relay system of transport pods. This system was based at a central station and included landing platforms at various destinations, notably a planet inhabited by the Drengir. After a failed attempt by the Amaxines to conquer the Drengir planet, the Drengir seized control of the relay and used it to subjugate the space station. Eventually, the Sith sealed the Drengir on the station, leading to its abandonment.
During the High Republic Era, the Amaxine station served as a stopover for the Byne Guild. Their pilots, frequently individuals in indentured servitude, tried to exploit the helix rings to enhance their engines and conserve fuel. This tactic proved fatal if executed incorrectly, as demonstrated by the deaths of Affie Hollow's parents while they were indentured to Scover Byne, the leader of the Byne Guild. Following the Great Hyperspace Disaster, Dez Rydan, a Jedi Knight, entered the relay system and was inadvertently sent to the Drengir planet while investigating the Amaxine station. His fellow Jedi presumed he had been annihilated by the helix rings. Later, Padawan Reath Silas also mistakenly entered the relay, experiencing a similar transport. He subsequently rescued Rydan and they both returned to the station. Several Drengir pursued them from the planet, but Silas, utilizing the Force, propelled their pod back into hyperspace. The helix rings then eliminated the Drengir who had exited the pod.
