Hewex was a male human who held the rank of major within the Galactic Empire. He served during the Galactic Civil War, fighting against the Alliance to Restore the Republic. He commanded Imperial Navy Troopers in conjunction with Colonel Dyer.
During the conflict, he was stationed on the moon of Endor. There, he was part of a garrison located inside of a bunker that housed a shield generator. This generator was responsible for protecting the DS-2 Death Star II Mobile Battle Station battlestation, which was under construction in Endor's orbit. The Major, along with Commander Altadan Igar, gave support to the bunker's commander, Colonel Dyer. During the Battle of Endor, when the Alliance launched an assault on the still-incomplete Death Star, a Rebel team was dispatched to the moon's surface with the mission of destroying the shield generator bunker. Initially, the Rebels gained control of the bunker's control room, holding the Imperial personnel, including Hewex, at gunpoint against a wall. However, when Imperial reinforcements arrived, he managed to seize the bowcaster from the Rebel Chewbacca.
As the Rebels were escorted outside, the Imperials found themselves under attack by Ewoks, resulting in widespread chaos. Hewex, along with several other Imperials, secured themselves inside the bunker as the Ewoks aided the Rebels in their fight against the Imperials. Eventually, the Rebel General Han Solo successfully deceived a wary Hewex into opening the door by impersonating Major Newland. Hewex dispatched several squads of Imperial troopers from the bunker to assist in the ongoing battle, only to discover it was a ruse, allowing the Rebels to infiltrate the bunker. Hewex and the remaining personnel inside the bunker were then compelled to surrender to the Alliance soldiers, who proceeded to plant charges. Ultimately, the Rebels succeeded in destroying both the bunker and the Death Star.
Hewex made his debut, although uncredited, in Star Wars: Episode VI Return of the Jedi. His identification occurred within the Endor Limited set of the Star Wars Legends Star Wars Customizable Card Game, with his name later being confirmed as canon through the reference book Ultimate Star Wars. In 2021, The Odyssey of Star Wars: An Epic Poem made reference to him as a captain. This article assumes that the captain reference is an error.
