Altadan Igar, a male human, held the rank of commander within the Imperial Army of the Galactic Empire. His duty station was a shield bunker located on the moon known as Endor. In the year 4 ABY, prior to the Battle of Endor, the Jedi Luke Skywalker willingly gave himself up to Igar. Subsequently, Igar brought the prisoner before the Sith Lord Darth Vader, who then instructed the commander to conduct a search of the surrounding area for any allies of Skywalker.
Born on the planet Kuat, Altadan Igar was a male human. During the Clone Wars, when the Confederacy of Independent Systems launched an invasion of Kuat, a youthful Igar became part of the local defense force to oppose them. As the conflict progressed, Igar served the Galactic Republic, even fighting alongside a member of the Jedi Order during a battle that took place on Celes IV. In that particular battle, the Jedi spearheaded a high-risk assault by Igar and other Republic soldiers to seize a Separatist fortress. Although they succeeded, the operation resulted in the deaths of many of Igar's fellow soldiers, which instilled in him a sense of resentment towards the Jedi and their methods.

Later on, Igar found himself serving the Galactic Empire as a commander in the Imperial Army throughout the Galactic Civil War against the Alliance to Restore the Republic. He was assigned to the moon of Endor, fulfilling the role of a commanding officer within a garrison. This garrison's primary objective was to safeguard an Imperial command bunker that housed an SLD-26 planetary shield generator. The purpose of this generator was to protect the DS-2 Death Star II Mobile Battle Station superweapon while it was being constructed in orbit above the moon.
In 4 ABY, the Alliance dispatched a strike team to Endor with the intention of destroying the shield generator, which was a necessary step before launching a full-scale attack on the Death Star. Before the assault on the bunker commenced, the rebel Jedi, Luke Skywalker, deliberately surrendered to Igar during one of the officer's patrols. Skywalker's goal was to be brought before his own father, the Sith Lord Darth Vader, hoping to bring his father back to the light. Igar interrogated Skywalker about the presence of other rebels in the vicinity, but the Jedi provided a false statement, claiming he was alone.
Upon confiscating Skywalker's lightsaber, Igar immediately recognized Skywalker's Jedi identity and made a derogatory remark. Sensing Igar's past experiences with the Jedi, Skywalker inquired about Igar's beliefs, leading the commander to recount his experiences on Celes IV. He asserted that adhering to the Jedi way and following the will of the Force was a form of madness. However, Skywalker maintained that it was destiny and the will of the Force that allowed him to survive the Jedi's risky charge during the battle. They eventually came across the corpse of a stormtrooper named Rell. Skywalker admitted to incapacitating Rell and numerous others, which infuriated one of Igar's troopers, Dooze. As Dooze retaliated by striking Skywalker with the butt of his rifle, Igar recalled the Jedi on Celes IV and her hesitation before leading the charge. Consequently, Igar ordered Dooze to cease his attack.

Subsequently, Igar traveled with Skywalker in an All Terrain Armored Transport to the bunker's landing platform, where Vader arrived to meet them. The commander, along with his prisoner and three stormtroopers, disembarked from the walker onto one of the platform's walkways. He then handed Skywalker and the Jedi's lightsaber over to the Sith. Following this, he requested permission to search the surrounding area for Skywalker's allies, as he did not believe the prisoner's claim of being alone.
Vader commended the commander and granted his request to conduct a search. Igar, accompanied by the stormtroopers, re-boarded the walker, leaving father and son alone on the walkway. Shortly after Igar apprehended Skywalker, the rebels launched an attack on the shield bunker and successfully infiltrated it. However, they discovered that the Empire had anticipated their arrival and set a trap. Despite this, the rebels ultimately succeeded in destroying the command bunker and shield generator, enabling the Alliance Fleet above the planet to destroy the Death Star.
Igar possessed fair skin, brown hair, and blue eyes. When Luke Skywalker claimed to have no allies on Endor, Igar recognized the deception and sought permission from Vader to hunt down the rebels. Initially, he displayed a smug demeanor while presenting Skywalker to Vader, but this diminished by the time he returned to the walker.
Igar was attired in a gray officer's uniform, which included a cap, belt, and boots. While on Endor, he traveled in an All Terrain Armored Transport.
Igar's first appearance was in the 1983 original trilogy film, Star Wars: Episode VI Return of the Jedi. Actor William Hoyland portrayed him in the film, although uncredited. The character's name was first established within the current canon in the 2015 reference book Ultimate Star Wars, with the name originating from the 1999 Star Wars Legends Star Wars Customizable Card Game in the Endor Limited set.
