Hoth hog
Small, omnivorous creatures known as Hoth hogs were related to the ice scrabbler and inhabited the icy planet of Hoth. To find thermal vents or heated caverns while foraging in family units, they utilized their tongues, then employed strong, clawed feet to dig for food. The tauntaun species consumed Hoth hogs as part of their diet.
Biology and apperance
These small, omnivorous beings, called Hoth hogs, were able to thrive on the frozen planet Hoth because of the slow-growing vegetable matter found in the world's deep ice caverns, which had been nourished by ancient volcanic activity. These plants served as a significant food source for the hogs, which were related to the smaller ice scrabblers also present on the planet. Hoth hogs possessed tongues sensitive to heat and powerful feet equipped with claws.
Behavior
Hoth hogs lived in small family groups that foraged together. They would locate thermal vents or heated caves by extending their tongues and "tasting" the air for subtle traces of heat to follow. Once a food source was identified, the Hoth hogs would use their feet to dig down to it. The tauntaun species that also lived on Hoth consumed Hoth hogs and ice scrabblers, in addition to plants and lichen.
History
Ardis San Tekka, the Director of Creature Cartography for the Galactic Society of Creature Enthusiasts, mentioned Hoth hogs in an entry about tauntauns in her journal sometime after the Battle of Exegol in 35 ABY.
Behind the scenes

Within the current Star Wars canon, the initial appearance of Hoth hogs was in 2015, within the Rise Against the Empire Play Set of the non-canon video game Disney Infinity 3.0. The hogs were depicted in the set as dark blue quadrupeds featuring black spots, white spines, and pink snouts. The creatures received their first canonical mention in Star Wars Workbook: 4th Grade Reading and Writing, which was written by Bridget Heos and Megan Butler and released in 2017 as a component of the Star Wars Workbooks series.
Hoth hogs originated within the Star Wars Legends continuity, making their debut in the LucasArts video game Super Star Wars: The Empire Strikes Back, which launched on June 1, 1993. Although the game did not formally identify the creatures, they were given a name in Super Empire Strikes Back Official Game Secrets in November of that same year.
