Ice (duelist)

During the Jedi Civil War, a Human female named Ice participated in the dueling ring on Taris, which was located within the Upper City Cantina. Inspired by the renowned Mandalorian duelist Bendak Starkiller, Ice was a skilled gladiator whose moniker stemmed from her emotionally detached nature. She embraced this coldness in every aspect of her life, displaying harshness and criticism towards everyone, including her own admirers. Despite this, her intermediate ranking allowed her to maintain popularity with the arena's audience. Not long before the destruction of Taris, the amnesiac former Dark Lord of the Sith Revan, competing under the name "Mysterious Stranger," challenged and defeated her. Revan then surpassed all other duelists, becoming the final champion of the ring before its demise.

Biography

Childhood

The Human female who would later be known as Ice, was once a great admirer of Bendak Starkiller, a famous gladiator who fought in the dueling ring run by Ajuur the Hutt. This arena was situated inside the Upper City Cantina on the planet of Taris. She looked up to Starkiller and aspired to follow in his footsteps as a duelist. However, upon their initial meeting, she found his personality deeply unpleasant. This encounter had such a profound impact on her that she decided to emulate Starkiller's ruthless and antisocial behavior, accepting it as a lesson about the true nature of the world.

Career as a duelist

As she grew older, the woman pursued her ambition and joined the Taris dueling ring, having been hand-picked by Ajuur himself. By 3956 BBY, Ice had amassed a considerable fanbase, having established herself as a cunning and devious fighter. She was particularly popular among women, who saw her success as proof that they could also excel in such a field, though she rejected the idea of being a symbol for gender equality. Among the duelists of that year, Ice was capable of defeating Gerlon Two-Fingers and Deadeye Duncan, the latter of whom was widely considered the worst duelist of all time. While she was respected for her abilities, she was not on par with the experienced duelist Marl or the reigning champion Twitch, placing her in the intermediate ranks.

During that same year, a Sith fleet under the command of Dark Lord of the Sith Darth Malak seized control of Taris, imposing martial law and a planetary blockade. Despite the quarantine, the dueling arena continued its operations, with the Sith maintaining the ban on death matches, which had previously led to Bendak's retirement.

However, Revan, the amnesiac former Dark Lord who had survived the destruction of the Republic warship Endar Spire as a Republic soldier, visited the Upper City Cantina and decided to participate in the dueling arena under the alias "Mysterious Stranger." After defeating Deadeye Duncan and Gerlon Two-Fingers, he faced Ice and emerged victorious, earning 300 credits. Upon her defeat, Ice quickly acknowledged that Revan's combat skills far surpassed her own, accepting this as another harsh reality. As predicted, she witnessed Revan defeat both Marl and Twitch, becoming the final champion of the dueling ring before the destruction of Taris by the Sith.

Personality and traits

Ice, true to her chosen name, possessed a cold and detached personality, generally avoiding close relationships. Although she was deeply cynical, this was not always the case. In her youth, she often dreamed of meeting her idol, Bendak Starkiller. However, when she finally met him, she was repulsed by his unpleasant character. This encounter, whether it caused her heartbreak or admiration, profoundly influenced her perspective, leading her to believe that she needed to be just as ruthless and cruel to succeed. Therefore, she adopted the theme of coldness for her public image, even greeting strangers with unprovoked condescension. Despite this and her tendency to give blunt and rude responses—even to her fans—she was not above congratulating fellow competitors, especially if they demonstrated exceptional skill. While her determination to be emotionless made her asocial, it also meant that she did not take insults or defeats personally. Furthermore, she would use shocking events as opportunities to reflect on the lessons they held.

Ice was a blonde-haired woman with fair skin and blue eyes. By her own admission, many men found her attractive, which she found disgusting. Her immediate assumption upon meeting Revan was that he was simply another male admirer attempting to flirt with her.

Skills and abilities

Ice's detached demeanor was evident not only in her asocial tendencies but also in her fighting style. Marl described her as a consistent and reliable fighter. She was confident in her combat abilities, which allowed her to maintain a good level of control during battles. Although she was not the best in the dueling ring, never having surpassed Marl or defeated Twitch, she was still praised as a formidable competitor by fans of the sport.

During her duel with Revan, she began the fight using her blaster, only switching to her sword when her opponent closed the distance. In other situations, she was known to use the opposite tactic, concealing a blaster in her clothing to use if a fight turned against her.

Equipment

Throughout her career, she preferred to wear a combat suit, which was standard for the time, and carried both a heavy blaster pistol and a vibroblade.

Behind the scenes

Ice's first appearance is as a non-player character within the 2003 video game Star Wars: Knights of the Old Republic. In the Xbox version of the game, her hair is brown, whereas in the PC version, it is blonde. Within the game, the player, Revan, has the option to engage in combat with her within the dueling ring. However, the encounter's nature is such that it does not advance the storyline, nor does it impact the player's alignment. Consequently, it remains uncertain whether Revan and Ice ever interacted beyond this encounter.

Should the player defeat Ice and then proceed to kill Bendak Starkiller in a death match, thereby earning dark side points, Ice will become introspective regarding the implications of his death on her cynical worldview.

Ice is briefly mentioned in The Complete Star Wars Encyclopedia, where it is stated that she competed in the dueling ring on Taris during the Great Sith War. This is unlikely and most likely an error because the Great Sith War took place in 3996 BBY, four decades before the events of Knights of the Old Republic, where Ice is depicted as a young woman.
